Kellie should win. And deserves to win.
Kellie is different from most other Irish sporting heroes. She is identifiable with in the heart and the gut in a way almost all others aren’t. She strums a load of chords with middle Ireland, working class Ireland, female Ireland, gay Ireland, straight Ireland, all of Ireland basically.
She works in a local psychiatric hospital. She got the country up at 6am and got her neighbourhood onto the streets. Her house was an open door. She’s proper Dub in an almost comic book, Brendan Behan sense. She’s great craic. She has the personality of your larger than life granny who talks to everybody and charms the bollocks off everybody, crossed with the personalities of the characters in Derry Girls.
She gives great interviews. She doesn’t court attention but doesn’t push people away. She wins like a champion and behaves in victory in a manner that would make you well up with pride and feel genuinely great about the potential of human beings to be fucking sound.
She didn’t follow the money after she won.
Shane Lowry does the whole “I’m normal” schtick, and yeah he is, normal within the framework of jetting off around the world in private jets.
Shane doesn’t work part-time up the road serving meals in a psychiatric hospital. Kellie does.
Kellie is us. Kellie is fucking awesome. Kellie Kellie Kellie.

Another reason Kellie should win is that she did it against a backdrop of the worst cunts in the world infesting her sport and trying to ruin her sport and her city and her locality.
And she didn’t kow tow to one of those cunts. She did it for herself and the overwhelming majority of good people.
