and in that time Dublin got hammered for being a bunch of fancy dan bottlers thinking they were great winning Leinster when real prize was an all Ireland final appearance at the very least…and a lot of it was true and as a dub I have no problem admitting that or hearing other people say that…

Soccer is only taken seriously by 7 or 8 nations. Eire26 is very obviously not one of them.

Eire26 are ranked what, top 20 or something. No Eire soccer players can kick a ball to another player. The best soccer players in this country have to sign on the dole for 4 months of the season. If you are any good you have to forsake an education to go over to Doncaster Rovers to chase ‘the dream’. You will likely end up back in eire and depressed at 19 and no prospects.
Please reply with your alternate argument showing eire26 as a nation who takes soccer seriously like spain Italy Germany etc.

That’s true, but in the case of both Wales in 1987 and Scotland in 1991, Ireland had the chance to get themselves into the positions those teams found themselves in, but lost to them in the group stage.

Rugby was amateur in most countries in 1987 and 1991 and Ireland was most assuredly in the amateur camp. What happened to Ireland in the 1987 and 1991 World Cup has zero relevance to 2019 in Japan. As an aside, losing the coach Mick Doyle to a heart attack on the day they team arrived in Auckland in 1987 wasn’t exactly ideal preparation for the opening game against Wales a few days later. Ireland were muck in the early 90’s. They didn’t win a game in the 1991 Championship, avoided a whitewash by drawing in Cardiff and were whitewashed in the Championship in 1992 a few months after the 1991 World Cup. Scotland had probably their finest ever team then, having won a Grand Slam in 1990. Ireland went from 1988 to 2000 without beating Scotland. Scotland had the not inconsiderable advantage of that 1991 pool game played in Murrayfield.

excellent post however i usually refer to it as The Championship as opposed to the Championship when referring to the 5 Nations
