Ireland are probably going to have to beat South Africa in a quarter final, Australia in a semi and New Zealand in the final to win the World Cup. The Southern Hemisphere Big 3 have won 7 of the 8 World Cups between them. Thatâs the scale of the task facing Coach Schmidt and his charges.
To beat all three of those would trump any sporting achievement from a team in green. Even Limerick in beating Tipperary, Cork and Kilkenny en route to winning the 2018 All Ireland.
Youâre the one talking about Ireland losing a quarter final. I didnât say a word about Ireland losing a quarter final in my post. In fact I said Ireland can beat the Springboks in a quarter final.
You seem to struggle in understanding the written English language.
The rubby crowd seem to almost want Ireland to lose at the quarter finals. I canât get my head around it. They are no 1 in the world and just destroyed their main rivals in the group.
If they go out in the quarter finals itâs a bottle job, plain and simple.
Correct. You finally seem to be getting it. The rankings counted when the World Cup draw was made nearly two and a half years ago in May 2017. The top four ranked sides were Number 1 seeds, sides ranked 5-8 were Number 2 seeds. Rankings are not a true reflection of current strength though, as they are based over a four year period.
Odds are based on what the market thinks will be the probability of an outcome. This is skewed with the rugby set in Ireland furiously backing south Africa
Ireland havenât played South Africa in nearly two years since November 2017. Just four of the South African team that started that test match remain in the South Africa starting XV now - Damian de Allende, Malcolm Marx, Eben Etzebeth and Pieter-Steph du Toit.
Thatâs a real pity, I was looking forward to another 3,000 posts about how we are the number 1 team in the world and therefore shouldnât be losing a quarter final.
