Rugby World Cup 2019 - Ireland shit the pot all over again

Maybe post up the full comparative there.

Schmidt won three Six Nations Championships in six attempts. Gatland won three Six Nations Championships in ten attempts with Wales. Three from fourteen if you throw in his near four years at the helm with Ireland.

Schmidt won two European Cup with Leinster. Gatland won one European Cup with Wasps.

Did Gatland win the Ranfurly Shield or National Provincial Championship with Waikato? Schmidt was Bay of Plenty Coach in 2004 when they beat Auckland to win the Ranfurly Shield for the first time.

Gatland won the Tom Richards Cup with the British Lions in Australia in 2013.

Gats has 4 six nations wins I thought, 3 of them Grand Slams? He has one less European Cup than Schmidt, but has 3 Premiership titles from his time at Wasps and his win with Waikato in NZ, compared to Schmidt who won 1 Pro14. And of course he has his Lions success and has won a meaningful game at a world cup. By any measure Gatlands coaching honours are far greater than Schmidts.

Do winning ‘meaningful games’ at the ‘World Cup’ qualify as ‘coaching honours’? Whatever that is.

I make it three Six Nations Championships that Gatland won with Wales and not the four that you have claimed - 2008, 12 & 19. Rob Howley coached Wales to win the Six Nations Championship in 2013 when Gatland took a near year long sabbatical from the Wales job.

I’m unsure how you can include Bay of Plentys success when Schmidt was assistant coach to Vern Cotter, but then exclude Gatlands success with Wales in 2013. However should you wish to remove the 2013 six nations win from his CV then its ‘just’ the 3 Grand Slams for Gats then. For those new to the sport like yourself you probably don’t appreciate how much greater an achievement it is to win a Grand Slam than merely top the table on scoring difference.
And yes I’d say taking your team to a world cup semi-final twice can be considered a coaching honour. Gatlands coaching honours are far far greater than Schmidts, I don’t think any knowledgable rugby follower would dispute this. Other than winning a losing bonus point against Japan there is nothing noteworthy Schmidt has achieved that Gatland has not.

Thanks for clarifying that you were misleading the forum about Gatty winning 4 Six Nations Championships when he only won 3. Maybe try harder not to mislead again.

You are a great man for the detail

Warren Gatland has won 4 Six Nations with 3 of them being Grand Slams.

2008, 2012, 2013 and 2018. That’s four. You’re some man for the detail alright. It’s bad when you’re wrong on the only thing your have going for you, historical facts. Gatty was running the show in 2013

If the Wales Rugby Union, as his employer, consider Gats to have four (4) 6nations championship then I am not going to disagree with them.

Rob Howley was Wales Coach for the 2013 Six Nations Championship as he was for the 2017 renewal. Gatland was on sabbatical after the WRU accepted his request for leave of absence.

Here’s the relevant extracts from the match Programme from Wales v Ireland in 2013. No mention of Warren Gatland as head coach or indeed in any coaching capacity for Wales in 2013.

Very disappointing to hear of such sweep, sweep from the rubby crew if so.

Gats has won a Lions test series and drawn a series in New Zealand. This is the pinnacle of the game according to lapsed poster @GeoffreyBoycott

He hooked the Waikato team which won the province’s first ever NPC title in 1992 and famously took the Ranfurly Shield off Auckland in 1993 after Auckland had held it for 8 years and 61 defences

undoubtedly. Albeit he’s probably more of a manager than a coach nowadays.

It was cold today tbf

Pants are an option.

Very narrow-minded. Typical golf club snob.

This interaction is getting us nowhere bud. The tights were obviously too tight, he was on the 18th fairway off the first tee.
