Russia Vs Ukraine (Part 1)

I don’t think you intended to be so mean spirited there but the thing is mistakes happen.

Take the constructive criticism and move on.

Wasn’t he already?

I suspect the implication of the correspondent here is premature for now, but I expect this is under discussion, but will be rejected at least once, probably twice, before more discussions about it have to be had and it eventually becomes a fait accompli when it is too late.

@Cheasty what’s your hunch on what’ll unfold in the coming weeks?

Do you think it’ll remain between Russia and Ukraine?

Pepsi drinkers need to be ashamed of themselves.

I think NATO will have to get involved at some point but I expect that will take time and the initial interventions will be totally ham fisted, and will be far too late for far too many people.

The key question here is: does Putin have boundaries.

I believe the answer is likely “No.”

It has been continually said by clued in observers, not least by me, that the longer you put off intervention, the greater the costs. If you only intervene when you have no choice, you really do have World War III.

Putin can now only survive if the whole of Russian society is reorganised towards total war in the same way Nazi Germany was, and that likely means towards the goal of military conquest of Europe.

I’m sure all 10 of them already are

When it’s all red rover there will be an East and West Ukraine and Kiev will become the setting for the next few decades of spy movie. What would its equivalent of Alexanderplatz be?

I’m not trying to sound selfish here but let’s
Just say there’s a threat of putin using nuclear weapons what’ll happen around here?

Will large gatherings be stopped is there any sort of plan? I presume the Americans have some sort of defence.

Freedom square ironically

I don’t really understand why putin is trying to get to sea? Sure who’s going to trade with him? Or is just purely to cut the Ukrainians off?

Is Moldova or Georgia next?

They’ll have to have all necessary forces in place before making any public decisions. They can’t do anything half cocked one would assume

It weakens Ukraine. Anything they want to export has to go through Russia. They also cant have a Navy with no ports.

Obviously there are individual Russians who are of good conscience but I made the point last week that the German people as a whole could not be absolved of what happened in Nazi Germany, and neither can the Russian people.

Again it should be clarified here that Moldova has been partially occupied by Russia since 1992 (I think) and Georgia since 2008. They are already in the firing line and nobody should believe their current existence as independent states - albeit hobbled by Russian designed “frozen conflict”, is in any way safe.

Goes along with my thinking that putin is lookong to implement his ‘Anschluss’ like his predecessor did with Austria, the Rhineland and parts of czechoslovkia. Unite the ‘Russian’ people in the small pockets within Georgia and Moldova. Until he implements his Lebensraum to reinstate the Soviet Union

Once you start invading other European countries you cannot stop.

Given Moldova’s historical and cultural ties to Romania (a NATO member), an invasion of Moldova by Mad Vlad could cross a line
