Scottish Football (SPFL, Scottish Cup, Bet Fred Cup, Tunnock’s Caramel Wafer Challenge Cup)

Comfortable 0-2 win for the Teddy Bears at Pittodrie.

Heart of Midlothian (at Tynecastle against Skol Cup winners St Mirren) and Glasgow Celtic (away to Falkirk at Brockville) both play their game in hand on Wednesday night.

Fun fact: Wednesday night will be Celtic’s first trip to Brockville in 16 years.

Falkirk certainly the place to be on a cold, wet, windy Wednesday night in mid-January.

Is it a plastic pitch ?

Yes, one of three in the top division…Falkirk, Kilmarnock & Livingston. The clubs voted to ban them a while back but clubs have been given a grace period of a year or two to introduce grass pitches.

Jesus that’s incredible.

On another note the number 14 for Hearts must be barely 5 foot

Feisty little Aussie centre midfielder, Devlin. Having a good season in a break up the play, niggly, keep it simple way.

From what I’ve seen of them so far I’m not massively convinced of Danny Rohl’s sevco being up to too much, they are getting wins regardless though I acknowledge and will be entering the transfer market promptly by the looks of things. I’d like to hear the thoughts of other SPFL experts like @Little_Lord_Fauntleroy @Bandage @Rocko am I being unfair?

Yeah they’re racking up the wins alright, albeit a lot of them had been narrow & unimpressive ones until last weekend. Coach Nancy clearly gave them a further confidence boost & they seem to have been comfortable enough in that double header with Aberdeen.

I don’t know if he’s a brilliant manager but he’s getting buy in & seems to have them fairly organised & solid. I think they’re pretty pragmatic too - it’s nothing too fancy or over complicated & relies on some big, athletic lads, being strong at set pieces, a bit of bite & physicality in midfield & pace out wide. If you’re organised, committed & carry a set piece threat then you’ll churn out a lot of wins in Scotland.

For all the praise he got for his half time adjustments at Celtic Park last weekend, every domestic manager Nancy faced successfully did the same & his side hasn’t actually impressed in either of the two games against Celtic overall.

I dunno, I think Clement had the huns purring in around January/February 2024 & their support was lapping it up before the whole thing collapsed. Lots of twists & turns ahead.

Hearts will drop points. Unfortunately that spoofer Nancy, who the more astute lads called out early led the gullible by the nose for long enough to inject belief into both sevco and hearts. Timing couldn’t have been worse. BR was going through the motions and I’m glad he’s gone but I never expected quite the moronicity of tidsdale nor the apathy ire arrogance and gullibility of the desmonds to let that lad through the net.

Yep thats very close to where I stand at the minute. The hun-dogs don’t have a clue, they will lap up anything if there are a few wins and they beat Celtic occasionally. That rat Raskin personifys them. What I would give Rohl credit for is that he’s managed to limit and drop the likes of a loser such as Tav when needed. Their rumoured incomings look to be decent enough business and snappy enough, but time will tell

Yeah but Clement is bald whereas Rohl has an exceptional head of hair worthy of a head boy in sixth form at Eton College who is planning to drive from London to Sydney in a Triumph convertible for his gap year.

I watched some of the game away to Aberdeen and they played fairly well.

Otherwise they’ve looked quite poor when I’ve seen them. They will have confidence and belief now which is a concern because they should still be stronger than nearly every team they face. But I think it’s a weaker team than the last couple of seasons when they were very average.

They will be spending money again though this window, eventually you would think it will start to show. They look like a club who have at least some sort of idea of what they are trying to achieve.

They are a club who’s board want to win, and will do anything within their power to do so, no matter how far above the hedges they are flying.
Celtic have a board primarily interested in wearing a suit to the comfy chair and a free buffet and a bit of forelock tugging, outside Desmond who just wants to make even more money.
That is something you see over and over, the grit which lies between the surfaces of an emotionally invested support and community, and owners like rat cliff and Dermo who are simply trying to lever that emotional buy in to turn a profit.
They want to spend the bare minimum to keep the tills busy.
Desmond only really did anything when he felt the Huns had disrespected his worshipfulness. If Rangers FC hadn’t been wound up, it would have unpapered a lot of cracks. He struck lucky with Ange. He’s a lucky man for the most part.

He was never going to be cut out for the weekly battles in the English lower leagues. Great player on his day who always excelled in Europe but made of glass.

John McGlynn will tonight be out to stake his claim for a shot at the Celtic job in the summer.

Tough ask for Celtic to go to Brockville on a foul Wednesday night in January and win. Martin O’Neill hasn’t dropped a point in the Scottish Premiership since May 22nd, 2005 but it has to happen some time. This is the sort of game that is pivotal in championship races.

You’d expect Heart Of Midlothian to make short work of St. Mirren. The Buddies appear to have celebrated their Skol Cup victory long and hard and they’re coming off three consecutive defeats.

That was a day of some drama. A bitter pill for Celtic at the time.

It was disappointing alright. I suppose Scott McDonald repaid some of the debt later on in a similar way to how Michael Thomas did for Liverpool but in both cases I’d rather have won the ones that got away.

Still I suppose when you’re playing Craig Beattie up front what do you expect. Could Craig do a job for Celtic these days I wonder?

It was quite annoying that St. Martin lost the two close league title races against Rangers while the three he won were won by an average of about 34 points.

McLeish then started following O’Neill around, first moving to Birmingham City a year after O’Neill had taken over at Aston Villa, then taking the Villa job less than a year after O’Neill had walked out.

He then went to O’Neill’s old stomping ground at Nottingham Forest.

That’s a big win for Heart of Midlothian tonight. Down to 10 after 15 minutes but two second half goals to beat the Buddies 2-0 at Tynecastle.

Champions find a way.

Heart of Midlothian have lived up to their name in the last two games, but it’s dangerous to rely on heart and hearts in Scotland, as Scotland has one of highest rates of coronary heart disease fatalities on earth.
