I would be a big fan of both. I am also intrigued by this.

Theres a hillbillies in tralee which is populated entirely by knackers unfortunately. Good feed but seriously brings the shits out of you

The breast-in-a-bun, as the name suggests, containing 1 piece of chicken, plus salad, served in a sesame seed bun is the choice de jour for the man who isn’t afraid to tackle a problem head-on.
Ensuing risk of destruction to clothing or property at 3 am is quite high.
They’re tricky enough at the best of times, but doubly so when half-starved and enough beer in you to float your back teeth.

The snack box (of which I’m an avid fan) comprising 2 pieces of chicken, usually a breast and a leg, provided you knew the lad behind the counter, is more so the la carte choice, as it allows him to pick and choose each mouthful. Not to mention the fact that there’s substantially more chicken involved for roughly the same price as the rival breast-in-a-bun.

Nutritionally, carbohydrates can be found in both options; the white bread bun and potato chips offering similar calorific value to the discerning individual. Obviously the benefits of white meat cannot be understated, so the snack box wins out here by virtue of the larger portion of chicken on offer.

To summarise, for the risk-takers amongst you, happy to dice with sartorial disaster and willing to cede control to the gamut of flavours on offer, the breast-in-a-bun is the only realistic option.

For those of us who adopt the “Ned Flanders” philosophy, and just steer clear of that whole hornet’s nest of mayonnaise, lettuce and god knows what else, the snack box is the prudent choice.

A few years back stuffing and coleslaw used to be obligitary with a snackbox. Not many places include them anymore though. I hadn’t had them in years until last weekend when in the local chipper I was asked “would you like stuffing and coleslaw with that” and I said “yes, yes I would”. It was top notch, I think the death of celtic tiger shoudl see the return of such simple pleasures.

where in god’s name would they fit the stuffing and coleslaw?
those snack boxes are packed to the gills.

was in rebel pizza a few weeks back, picking up the large pizza and 2 bottles of coke (excellent deals on now if you’re interested) and was asked if i’d “like a few chips with that” by an enterprising young management chap.
naturally, i responded in the affirmative and will be frequenting the establishment again.

God Bless the Recession.

I used to call into Slattery’s in Raheen the odd evening if I was out for a few pints after work. They used to close pretty early (10ish) and if you called in just before that they would pack the bag to the gills, with pretty much anything that was left!

The positioning of the stuffing and coleslaw varies from place to place. Sometimes on top of the chips, other times tucked away underneath, or sometimes in seperate tubs outside the box. The one I got on sunday had a dollop of coleslaw in the corner with the stuffing on top.

I’ve seen curry-coleslaw and curry-cheese snack boxes too, messy but manageable. Curry-cheese chips combine fantastic with alcohol soaked taste buds

I mentioned on here before about curry stuffing chips being common in Killarney

An interesting combination not three bad at all

I’m pretty sure that nearly all of these combinations were invented at 3am on a Saturday night by pissed people and eventually found their way into circulation among the masses.

Coleslaw I can understand. Stuffing sounds just wrong.

I would imagine so all hail the drunken masses

Curry and cheese snack boxes or just a simple curry and cheese chip are lovely for a bit of a change , leave the snack box closed for about 5 mins after serving and the cheese is melted and runny

In fairness to them they’re the true patriots; willing to try almost anything on everyone else behalf and they pull it out of the bag time and time again. We all profit from drunken creativity when it comes to new chipper combinations

A couple of things…

  1. Wilhelm, your application has been successful. Welcome aboard.
  2. This group is for connoisseurs of Limerick chippers. This encompasses both city and county. Talk of chippers in other counties/regions will not be tolerated.
  3. I am the foremost authority on Limerick chippers and only i may accept applications to the group. Puke and Runt, get in line.

This man knows the score !!

3 battered sausages, fish and chip in donkey fords. Unreal

You’ll have to PM your locale Runt. Its been too many years since I got stuffing with a snackbox. Oh the memories!

Anywhere in Limerick do a decent potato pie? Very common in Cork but harder to locate in this part of the world.

Single and a spice burger there chief.

God I’d love one right now. Indeed they are very hard to get outside Cork, Dublin’s patato cake is pale in comparison.
