Serie A 2018/19

Shocking, an absolute mess at the back. Players downed tools so EDF under massive pressure, Milan at home at the weekend is must win for him.

Chiesa was majestic.

Juve creaking. BBC out injured. 7 goals conceded in last 3 games, out of the Coppa and dropped points tonight at home to Parma. The gap is still quite big at 9 points but if Napoli can reduce it to 6 before they play Juve in a month’s time, it could make things interesting.

Carlo is doing a great job at Napoli

Great game here between Bologna and Genoa, good to see Destro back playing, he scored the opener and has looked very sharp. Sanabria has been very lively for Genoa too, I believe Roma still have some sort of option or clause on him so it is in our interest if he continues to perform.

Piatek with a brace in Bergamo tonight, the first a splendid volley. What a signing he is.

8 in a row chasing Juventus 14 points clear of second placed Napoli with 14 matches to go. It must be the most boring, one sided, Mickey Mouse league that there is going.

Juventus are just an excellent side, they’d have won 8 EPL titles in a row by now as well. Their goal difference this season is 17 less than the EPL leaders, they generally find it a lot tougher to beat Serie A teams than the EPL teams do likewise.

There’s 11 points between 6th and 7th in the EPL. After the top 6, the EPL teams are just punching bags. In Serie A, there is 11 points between 3rd and 10th.

Lolzers. No team has won more than 3 in a row in the 130 year history of league football in England. That includes some of the best club sides in the history of the game, multi European Cup winners like the Bob Paisley/Joe Fagan, Liverpool teams and Sir Alex, Man U. This Juventus side haven’t even won a European Cup. All they’ve done in that competition is embellish the Juventus record as the biggest chokers in European Cup fooball - 7 final losses from 9 appearances it is now.

8 in a rows only happen in Mickey Mouse, anti-competitive leagues like Italy and Scotland.

There’s only one appearance from a British side in the past 6 seasons despite the league being saturated with money and being by far the richest and highest spending league in World football. The success in European football in unilaterally dependent on the top 6 teams who are miles above the rest.

When you look at the performance of the sides outside the top 6 who have qualified for Europe, only Leicester City have had a decent run init.

2018/19 - Burnley - exit in qualifying rounds
2017/18 - Everton - finished bottom of their group
2016/17 - Southampton (group stage exit) West Ham (exit in qualifying round)
2015/16 - Southampton - exit in qualifying round

The EPL looks to be deplorable outside of its top 6 sides, the top 6 sides itself are part of the 11 richest clubs in the world but Spurs for example are about to make the last 8 in a European competition for the first time in 5 seasons despite qualifying in all of those seasons. So as the the sides outside of the top 6 continue to embarrass themselves on the European front whenever they get the chance, the other sides in the top 6 continue to underachieve in Europe.

You cry about Juventus dominating Italian football, the reality is they would probably do the same in England as they look to be a few levels above the English sides based on their CL performances over the recent years.

Money well spent. He’ll get them into Champions League.

I hope not as we are in direct competition for the last spot with them though Inter are now being reeled back into a battle for a CL spot.

They have been playing great stuff since Paqueta and Piatek arrived and the balance of the team is much better now.

Bakayoko has really started to put some form together after a terrible start with them, they’ll need to find the money for him in the summer now though.

The standard in Serie A is deplorable outside of Juventus. They’ve won 21, drawn 3 and lost 0 so far as they cruise to 8 in a row.

Champions and league leaders in England, Manchester City have lost matches to 12th place Leicester, 13th place Crystal Palace and 16th place Newcastle. That’s the way it’s always been in England, you’ve got to be on your guard every day as teams don’t roll over and die like they do in Italy.

Juventus have dropped points to 11th place Parma, 5th place Atalanta and 13th place Genoa.

They have a goal difference of 17 less than Man City.

They have had 9 1 goal victories this season, they generally are made work for their points. Their highest winning margin is 3 goals.

City on the other hand have only had 3 1 goal victories this season and won 1 game by a 6 goal margin, 4 games by a 5 goal margin and 1 game by a 4 goal margin.

City have lost to palace, leicester and newcastle.

Hugely controversial decision in the game between SPAL and Fiorentina.

Chiesa made a surge into the box and tried to cut the ball back, he was caught after he played the ball but it came to nothing. SPAL then went up the pitch and scored. After the SPAL goal was scored, the ref wen to VAR and awarded the pelanty and the scoreline changed from 2-1 SPAL to 1-2 Fiorentina in a matter of seconds after Fiorentina converted the pelanty.

Madness.

Simeone has just got his second now. 3-1.

It really is a testament to the strength in depth of the EPL, that @Cicero_Dandi sees Man U as such strong contenders to win the title, even though with just 12 matches left, they trail both Liverpool and Man City by 14 points and Spurs by 9 points. A concession on his part, that every match in the EPL is fraught with danger for the front runners, no matter how lowly in the table the opposition are.
