A legend

Teddy McCarty was a celebrity.

He was the first and only player in the history of the GAA to win All-Ireland titles in hurling and football in the same year, when Cork won the double in 1990.

A Tipp lad called O Riordain did it in 1895- just to be pedantic !

Did Denis Walsh not do it too or am I not remembering that right?

He was on both panels but Teddy started in both finals

Sub on the football.

I copied and pasted that from the RTE website.

Wikipedia says Walsh was ineligible for a football medal. Why was that? I thought subs, even unused subs, got medals.

Sad to hear of Teddy McCarthy. Such a unique sporting accomplishment, however hard it was in yesteryear, will almost certainly never be repeated now.

Probably are entitled now but he didn’t get one then. He started the Munster final as well and I don’t think teddy did

There was a max of 30 medals at one point anyway.

Thats class.

I think Teddy’s first senior match for Cork was the 1986 All Ireland final v galway. Some of the Cork lads might confirm.
