Sinead O'Connor RIP

Honestly, I donā€™t ever remember anything like that
Any writers in particular?

I do especially around the popes pic being ripped up
And when she became Muslim

I watched the Nothing Compares 2 U Documentary back on friday might there and there are some old clips of Gay Byrne interviewing Sinead. He was unbelievably patronising and condescending to her in the clips. She didnā€™t take a backward step but he came across as a right smug cunt unsurprisingly enough

Now obviously Iā€™d no sympathy for her ref ripping up the pic
Thought twas wrong altogether
But hindsight tells all that she was a genuis but with trauma running through her,
In the end up our country let her and thousands of others down
Ref abuse and mental health problems being pushed under the carpet

Nothing new there.

Must watch the doc. A good friend of mineā€™s partner did the score for it.

He was,
Gay was a cute cunt,
When it suited him heā€™d act the boyo,
But underneath he was all for gaybo no one else,
Brilliant broadcaster, v anti SF,
Nevertheless I loved his radio shows,
Lines of Sinead etc were only fodder fir him and his ilk.

Agreed. Even more than a generational talent. And the bridge between Kate Bush and PJ Harvey. I also liked the fact ā€“ although irrelevant in artistic terms ā€“ she was Republican, which flummoxed a lot of people (and beautifully put out gobshites such as Kevin Myers).

Was on fringes of her company in Dublin a couple of times during early 1990s. Remarkable intensity to her glance. Exquisitely beautiful but not sexy. Effortlessly charismatic but clearly troubled.

She appears to have been funny and tender and unpredictably humorous when with close friends. Anyhow, herself and Shane McGowan are high among the clear geniuses.

The pope thing was well over 30 years ago and with hindsight it has been almost universally acknowledged that she was 100% on the ball

I really havenā€™t read or heard a bad word said about her on Irish media,

Her relationship with Gay Byrne is complicated, they seemed to have great time for each other, which doesnā€™t appear to suit certain narratives, we all knew what Gay could be like but he always championed her

Unreal. He was obviously fond of her but comes across as very weird by modern standards. Kissing her on the lips etc. I saw one there recently where she was dressed as a priest and shouted something about rasta at the end. Gay and the crowd were looking at her in complete pity as if she was a full lunatic.

I also watched it Friday night. A decent watch alright, Shame princeā€™s foundation wouldnā€™t let them use the music from nothing compares

Croke Park played the video of ā€˜Nothing compares to youā€™ yesterday before the game. The place was not quite full yet but pretty much. The spontaneous applause as it started was moving I found. Even allowing for the loss in definition quality on these big screens and while watching it from the Cusack Stand side of the curve Davin end, through the net behind the goal in front of the screen, her tear still glistened on her cheek.

This clip may have been posted here already. I never really liked Danny Boy but I never heard it sung like this.

Neither have I. Thatā€™s goddawful.

Like Queen most is brilliant
Some dross

Sheā€™s putting me off by reading the lyrics off a tablet or something

Thatā€™s an awful cover there by the Foos and Alanis.
