SPFA Player of the Year

Nominations :

Heid
Broony
The cunt Mendes
The cunt Davis

Young Player Nominations :

Jim McCarthy
James McArthur
Andy Driver
Stevie Fletcher

Broony and McCarthy for me.

I’d say Brown and Fletcher.

Good to see Steven Davis doing well. Bombed at Fulham but always thought he had the makings of a good player.

It’s not been a good league this year and I reckon it’s reflected in the nominations. The huns have regressed quite a bit but are still in a decent position to win it. Meanwhile, Celtic have been too cowardly and cautious (emanating from the manager) to go for it and bury them and, in addition, a decent chunk of their players have spent considerable time out injured or have struggled for form.

Caldwell’s been pretty good but is part of a defence that’s conceded quite a bit. Brown’s come on loads since last year but still has plenty of areas where he can improve. Davis is a tidy player and has the odd assist or goal but you wouldn’t really say he’s stamped his class all over the league this season. Mendes started with a bang by drilling in a goal at Celtic Park but has lived off that for months.

Brown will win it I’d say, not the finished article but still was impressive.
Fletcher for the young player of the year scored a few goals

Poor season poor nominations.

If sammy played like he did for the 1st 14 games or so of the season he might be up there as well and celtic would be a couple of wins away from the title

Good to have mcgeady back.

Brown wins it. And people said Giggs winning the epl one was a joke. Kris Boyd top goalscorer nowhere to be seen.

KKK boyds lack of goals vs Celtic may have played a part

good to see an irishman win young player of the year for the 2nd year in a row

Indeed.

Shan, the thing about Boyd is that he’s generally the type of striker who scores the 3rd and 4th goals in a 4-0 home win against Falkirk or someone. Obviously, I don’t want to jinx it ahead of next week and he’s capable of finishing off chances and may do so crucially against us and before the end of the season in other games too. But up to now he’s not a scorer of really game changing/affecting goals. He’s only scored once ever against Celtic and he’s a very poor record in Europe too. Well done Scotty Brown.

Strachan got manager of the year. Fooking hell.

Delighted for McCarthy. I wonder would he be in with a chance of getting a run-out against Nigeria at the end of the month?

Just watching the SPL highlights from the weekend and McCarthy got 2 lovely goals - a composed left footed finish and a volley from the edge of the box with his right.

Footage from the awards. Brown and Strachan give Peter Martin of Radio Clyde a bit of grief. Brown also thanks O’Dea, who seems to be heckling him, in his speech:

If brown was in the epl I don’t think he would make a side outside the bottom 6 or so. Depressing times for lovers of the game in Scotland
