Just finishing the Bloodied Field. Absolutely fantastic book. Accurate and detailed enough to be in a college library, readable enough to zip through like some kind of thriller. A serious achievement, imo.

Dalo book. Zzzzzzzzzzz

Agreed on all above.

Just finished Agassi’s autobiography. Great read. It was ghosted by a Pulitzer prize-winning author. He’d infuriate you at times but really well worth picking it up. He had every reason to be messed up with stereotypical mental tennis dad. His pursuit of Steffi Graf is like a script from a cheesy romcom. His portrayal of Sampras as a dullard and a poor tipper is a bit harsh. Courier, Bolleteri and Chang don’t come out too well either but he spares his worst filleting for Jimmy Connors

Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf are my favourite celebrity couple and I’ll be updating the “Your Favourite Celebrity Couple” thread presently to post same.

Agreed Rating Polar opposites in ways but two peas in a pod in others

Thanks for the pointer. Just read it. Hadn’t heard of Gary Smith before.

I’ve just downloaded Living On The Volcano: The Secrets of Surviving as a Football Manager. It’s from Michael Calvin who wrote the heralded book Nowhere Men about football scouts. I’ll report back in due course, chaps.

Can anyone recommend some good grid iron books

I liked Civil War by Feinstein about the Army v Navy college rivalry. Also Friday Night Lights is an excellent read.

Friday Night Lights is outstanding, the gold standard.
The last football book I read was The System by Jeff Benedict. Its about the NCAA’s history of scandals and how machine-like powerhouse programs are built.
Slow Getting Up by Nate Jackson is also very good. Written by a journeyman player, its a super insight into what life is like for everyday players on the bubble. The guy is really likeable and its really well written.

Boys Will Be Boys: The Glory Days and Party Nights of the Dallas Cowboys Dynasty

An excellent read, just excellent.

There was a thoroughly interesting interview with this chap a week or two back on Off The Ball.

Sounds like it’ll be a good book.

First chapter about Martin Ling ex-Leyton Orient, Cambridge and Torquay manager is a belter.

Eamon Sweeney’s “The Road to Croker” is definitely one of the better GAA books out there, for those into that sort of thing.

Focusses on one match (or in some cases two matches) on each weekend in the 2003 championships and the background stories of each of the participants.

“Triumph” the Jesse Owens story is a good read.

Details Jesse’s run in to the Berlin Olympics.

Can anyone recommend a good college 'ball book to complete my order?

About to start into Keith Duggan’s The Lifelong Season. Haven’t read it in years, one of the best sports books I’ve read.

Donald McRae on writing his upcoming Steven Gerrard book in 15 weeks:

Not a fan of Gerrard and I’ve never read any of McRae’s book but that passage has me interested.

You’d think they could come up with a title a bit more original than ‘My Story’ though.
