With all due respect I think Shane Longâs goal to beat then World Champions Germany in 2015 brought far more joy to the general public than Istabraq. Johnny Sexonâs drop goal against France 2018 would have to be in there too. Ditto ROG against Wales 2009.

Who knows but the general feeling around Europe seems to be that itâs our best effort for quite some time and will probably qualify and that would be my view too.

1 Into Dust by Mazzy Star because it was played constantly on an ad for the weeks before this match took place and built the anticipation beautifully.
2 AKA What A Life by Noel Gallagher and his High Flying Flying Birds because The Sunday Game played it as the intro to the Sunday Game highlights programme the night of the final.
3 Futureâs Bright by Richard Ashcroft. RTE used it as the music for their âretrospective of the yearâ montage close to the end of the final highlights programme. I canât find the montage in question but it lasted the whole 5 minutes and 51 seconds of the song. Iâm listening to it right now and all I can think about is Kevin McManamon jinking inside Tom OâSullivan and the faces in the crowd that were caught by the camera. It was a day of days and Iâm rightly pissed right now so Iâm thinking about everything I did that day right now and I can remember the whole fucking lot.

The celebrations of Eamon Darcy and Des Smyth after sinking their respective putts are quintessentially 1980âs. Darcyâs is akin to that of some geeky looking German footballer who has just scored at the Euroâs, while Darcyâs is more like that of a roaster from Kilkenny or Offaly whoâs after scoring a crucial late goal in the All Ireland Hurling final.

If memory serves me correctly, on the inaugural Synth Week on the Second Captains podcast, the Synth Lord also known as Ken Early selected this track as the first one to be played.

I was watching this while staying up to do taxi duties later on in the night. The dulcet tones of Harry Carpenter setting the scenes.
I believe RTE used the same intro as the BBC for their Masters coverage with Miles Dungan back in the 90s.
My mature recollection tells me this is not so.
RTEâs golf coverage in the early 1990s was branded as âCarlsberg World Series Golfâ with the Carlsberg logo featuring heavily.
There was one year (1991) they used âWicked Gameâ by Chris Isaak as their theme music for US golf coverage. Theyâd play a three or four second snippet of it at the join before and after ads during coverage.
From 1993 on to whenever RTEâs coverage of American golf ended (which Iâd guess was after 1995) they used the song âBig Areaâ by Then Jerico as their theme music.
I think from 1994 on RTE only had the US Masters.
This would have been separate to RTEâs coverage of the Carrollâs Irish Open which I think still used a light, airy in house 1970s or maybe early 1980s theme music which you probably recall in your mind.
The NBA is back next week and so too are the broadcast rights for the first time since since the early 2000s to the best in the business at NBC.
The intro voiceover for Michael Jordan, the Peacock, the NBC chimes and the outstanding theme Roundball Rock. Just very 1990s.

Anderton was a very good reliable nuts and bolts player. Very underrated and injury prone. Terry loved him.
That was a lovely England jersey, the blue really worked.
1996 was a great aul summer also, we didnt know it but civilisation had peaked in 95, but it was still heady days.

He was a fabulous player, would have been picked for every team in the world but he was indeed injury prone
He was very good. Direct pacy winger who could score goals. Skilful too even though he looked unorthodox. A slightly worse version of McManaman. He was the original âsick noteâ.

I remember Anderson getting a cracker against Sweden in 1995 during some UMBRO Cup tournament. Similar to Le Tournoi that countries would do almost as a test event the year before a big tournament.
