Suggestions for the forum

Over the next 2 weeks or so it’s likely we’ll be leaving the forum as it currently stands to a new design. The main reason for this (for anyone interested) is that the forum and the main part of the site are currently held in separate databases and have difficulty communicating with one another. The site is done in “Joomla” and the forum is by “Simple Machines” with a bridge between the two so that they look like they’re part of the same site.

Anyway the people at Joomla have now developed a better forum that seems to be as good as simple machines - it will just make it easier to manage the two if they’re in the one database and we might get some additional functionality out of it.

So the move will probably take place when I can copy all the old posts and data across seamlessly and update the new board for the add-on features we have here such as posting videos etc.

In the meantime if anyone has any suggestions for the design of the site or the forum or for any features for the forum let me know.

Maybe make different themes for the forum available to users. I quite like the black and green myself but variety is the spice of life ;D

That’s certainly a possibility Flano. In the current system it’s nearly impossible to offer varied themes because they need to work in both the main site and the forum but this should be easier to implement when they’re all working from the same core site.

Pundit names to coincide with the level of posts like before.

Well thats why I reckoned it was a possibility after you said the site would be hosted on the same database.

Also bring back the commentators/pundit names for membership level

If there’s going to be ranking could I get my posts from the old, old forum back? I don’t think I did at the time.

How about being able to change your display name like you were able to on the old forum, I get tired being Flano sometimes.

Not sure we should go down that route because it makes some threads hard to follow when people change their name retrospectively. No problem in doing it if people request individual cases but not sure it should be a standard feature.

A betting competition would be good. Posters would start off with an imaginary 100 euro and have one month to make or lose money. You have to declare bet before the event and a common bookmaker firm must be used for all bets. The person with the most amount of money at the end wins a freekick hoodie which is funded from the vast amount of money this site makes through advertising revenue. I fancy myself to win handy enough if it goes ahead. Thoughts?

That is something I’ve been trying to create for a long time with not much luck yet. Gerrardno1 is supposed to be handy with the old programming so maybe he can do it?
