Summer 2012 Transfer window thread

Michael Owen looks as though he will join Stoke

Little lad playing off a big lad. Sounds perfect.

Ederson on his way to Lazio from Lyon I believe.

Juventus have gained full ownership of Emanuele Giaccherini and also look set to gain full ownership of Sebastian Giovinco today. All co-ownersip deals must be sorted out by Friday or they will go to a blind auction. Some fantastic work by Marotta for Juventus so far this summer, they are also supposedly close to signging 50% of Marco Verratti’s share for €5m, he will stay at Pescara this season before Juventus take him next year. They have already signed Isla and Asamoah from Udinese and are being strongly linked with Kolarov and Rolando. If they get these names in I would suspect they would go for one big name up front, some reports around Italy suggest they will redeem Borriello off us and use him as a pawn in a deal to get Stevan Jovetic from Fiorentina.

Haven’t heard anything on what they will do with Estigaribbia yet, Elia and Krasic are most certainly for the exit door however.

Sky Italia are reporting that Juve have had a €12m bid for Rannocchia knocked back. Not sure why they’d need a centre back with Barzagli, Bonucci, Chiellini and Caceres at the club already. Is Caceres expected to leave Totti?

Arsenal have signed Giroud from Montpellier for £12m apparently. Preparing for Van Persie’s departure? Two strikers in one transfer window seems a lot for a team that plays 4-5-1.

I don’t think so Rocko, I’d say it’s more likely that Conte has set 3-5-2 as his preferred formation and wants the relevant depth to support this.

Podolski won’t play through the centre and Giroud in the middle would free up Van Persie to play wide on the other side. Still expect RVP to leave but that trio would go well together in a 4 2 3 1. All left footed though which is strange but probably not problematic.

Where would that leave Walcott, Ramsey, Gervinho? Presume the latter could be sold with Chamakh going too. I can’t see Wegner playing three strikers even in an amended formation. Any thoughts as to where Van Persie might go? Juventus were rumoured to be interested.

Van Persie is overrated, I could see him flop badly in Italy - at his age, with his injury record and contract situation it would be madness for a club to bid over €15m.

I think Giroud is a good player.*

Walcott would be an option. Four players for there positions isn’t overkill. Oxlade Chamberlain is another option there. Ramsey will play deeper and Gervinho would be a sub at best. Don’t think they’ll keep everyone, just think they’d work well together.

Napoli have made a £14.5 million bid for Seydou Doumbia

Matias Silvestre is close to joining Inter. Milan have announced the signings of Kevin Constant and Francesco Acerbi from Genoa while Mathieu Flamini will leave.

Genoa have also secured the transfer rights to Mattia Destro though he is expected to be sold on.

Paul Green has signed a two year deal with Leeds United

Pleased for him. An unfair figure of fun - he’s playing at much the same level as half the Irish squad and has done well to earn himself a new contract after a horrible year with that injury.

Despite what some people say he wasn’t released by Derby County, they wanted to keep him and offered him an improved deal to stay at the club but he wanted to move on, but never let the truth get in the way of a good story

QPR have signed Rob Green on a free transfer

Giovinco joining Juve for €11m.

Keith Andrews is to sign for Bolton

Liverpool strongly linked with a move for Roam’s Fabio Borini today. Rodgers would have worked with him at Chelsea and also brought him to Swansea on loan
