Summer 2012 Transfer window thread

Presume he would want to play Champions League football. Will hopefully be a good addition for Arsenal, a lovely footballer

Fuck champions league. We are current coca cola cup champions.

Where would he fit in at Arsenal, or instead of who?

He’s being brought in to strengthen the squad, not necessarily to replace anyone. Although, if Barca come up with a decent bid for Song then he’d be viewed as replacing him.

If United bid £20m for Van P€r$i€ it’s a done deal. I think it will be done before the weekend. A good fee for a player who is 29 years old and has only been really been fit for 18 months of his Arsenal career. Realistically there’s no way back for him at Arsenal and his July statement was very ill advised.

Whilst it’s been a good transfer window so far for Arsenal there will be uproar (on Twitter) if the RVP proceeds aren’t reinvested.

Arsenal should not sell to an English rival under any circumstances. They are effectively admitting they are a feeder club.

United are the only team that are willing to meet the asking price. The only option is to keep him and let him run down his contract and lose him for nothing next year. It doesn’t make sense to pass up £20m for a player that doesn’t want to stay, he’s gonna be worried about getting injured all season.

I’m not gonna lie, it hurts to see him go there but taking the money is the only option worth considering.

I honestly don’t think the United squad is all that stronger than the Arsenal squad at the moment. I just hope he doesn’t win anything with them.

I’d agree with that but then why go on loan just to be a squad player… Unless like you say he is being brought in as a replacement. I guess I’m just grasping at straws but he would.see a lot more game time at Liverpool and I’d love to see him join even for just a year.

But if his goals were to get you champions league qualification is that not as good as 20m? Leave him fuck off to whoever he wants then for his big payday. Having lost Torres and even Meireles to Chelsea was some bitter blow, not that we were exactly challengers but it still is a bitter pill to take and as a fan I wouldnt give a fuck about a miserable 20m, not in the modern game.

Thing is - there’s no way he would have the same impact as he did last season if he’s just waiting out his contract.

I just hope he spends a load of time on the treatment table. Or catches that syndrome from Fletcher.

Either way, if the deal isn’t done before Friday I look forward to reading what he has to say in the captain’s notes in the program.

As for Sahin, he’ll see plenty of game time. The game is about more than having a first eleven these days. He’s coming anyway, one year loan with the option to buy (which has been the sticking point). I expect a full scouting report from our resident Turk.

Sahin was absolutely immense for Dortmund the season before he joined Madrid and was the best player in the Bundesliga. Similar style of player to Schweinstiger. Great vision and a lovely left foot

Indeed. I gave him a mention on here on the favourite players thread in late 2010 after he had been stunning for Dortmund for a while. Remains to be seen how he will have progressed after a fairly long absence from regular football but he’s a class act and a lovely style of player with a terrific range of passing (in a TFK AFC context he’s more Rocko than Clarkeycat). Was disappointed to see him leave Dortmund and surprised he hasn’t been given more chances at Madrid.

Ryan Babel has joined Fiorentina

Bild are reporting that Javi Martinez has completed a move to Bayern Munich. I guess it’s bad for La Liga that some of the best players outside of Real Madrid and Barca have left or appear set to leave the league - Cazorla, Martinez, Llorente.

Considering the dominance of Real and Barca last year these moves are terrible news for La Liga. The end game Real and Barca are eyeing is surely a breakaway European league, who is going to buy TV rights for the sake of two games a season?

La Liga holds no interest for me outside of the classico anyway.

Unless Barca & Real look again at the money carve-up, La liga will wither. Think Scotland.

La Liga is shit. How much is Martinez going for? I don’t think he’s all that great as well, decent player but I think his ability is overstated due to his versatility. Two midfielders I’ve really liked from my limited viewing of Spanish clubs are Mario Suarez of Atletico Madrid and Benat of Real Betis.

TFK Exclusive: Manchester United have signed Robin van Persie.

 :pint:

I hope the cunt is riddled with injuries from the off.

Ah lovely!

Benat is excellent alright.

I think Martinez is excellent. Apparently both Real and Barca were interested but spoke to him about playing as a centre back and he doesn’t want to play there in the longer term.

Pity for Athletic to be losing that pairing but I don’t think it’s a problem unique to Spain. There’s a band of about 10 clubs (Inter, Milan, Juve, Barca, Real, PSG, Man United, Man City, Chelsea, Bayern) who are above the rest of Europe in terms of power and can sign players from virtually any other club. Even then PSG, City and Chelsea can attract players from the other super clubs due to their spending power.
