I’ll actually take you up further on that Rocko. Osvaldo has 47 league goals in 99 league games in La Liga and Serie A over the past three seasons which is a great record. He’s clearly a talented player, his problems mainly seem to be mental. I want him out of Roma and it’s nothing to do with his ability but more his temperament and attitude, he’s not controlled enough to handle the pressure of playing for Roma which must be one of the toughest clubs in Europe to succeed at mainly the fans (whom he has burned his bridges with) - not to mention the shambles the club has been in for the last three to four years (on and off the pitch).
I think you put him in a more serene atmosphere and you will get a lot more out of him. It roughly equates to £15m which is in and around what the likes of Bony and Carroll have fetched this season and I’m in no mind he’s better than them. I’d also say he’s a much better player than Negredo and every bit as good as Soldado who have gone for more this summer.
He’s definitely three times the player Hooper is anyway.

You can’t compare anyone’s transfer fee to Andy Carroll ever. It renders every debate useless and irrelevant. It’s not something you can measure other transfers by.
I’m not on about the Liverpool transfer if that’s what you are inferring I was. West Ham paid something between £15-18m for him this season. My point is that £15m is a very fair price for Osvaldo in today’s market, I don’t think they are overpaying for him. His goalscoring record is really good the past couple of seasons, he’s an established international striker for one of the world’s top nations and he’s a really good player when focused and motivated. The big job is getting him focused and motivated for a sustained period of time.
No, I’m on about both his transfers.
The English market is obviously overpriced and has been for some years. The price that? Ljajic goes for might be more indicative of value for Osvaldo.
Also, don’t you think may his mental fragility should be part of the assessment of his value?
Ljajic is out of contract next summer. He is available for nothing next which is not a valid comparison but I feel you’re still missing the point - the fact that you’re highlighting Osvaldo’s fee as a sign of football gone mad is a bit perplexing to me though. That’s generally the going rate for a striker of his quality with a decent record and good credentials. We (apparently) turned down £8m for Hooper last season - that’s football gone mad.
I highlighted more the fact that Southampton could afford to pay that was a sign of football gone mad. I do think Osvaldo is overpriced because the only clubs who’d pay more than 10m for a player of ghost quality are English.
Spurs have made a bid for Fabio Coentrao, if they get him this will be an excellent transfer window for them, plenty of dross moved on and some serious quality added to the squad even if they do lose Bale
Assou-Ekotto was a bit of a liability last season and this fellow could play that position nicely… or indeed fill in on the left wing when Bale eventually goes.
