Sunday Indo are Cunts Thread

Elaborate here please.
I’m actually not a SF supporter as such but the arguments against them from IRA to loony policies to record in the north govt don’t make sense imo. I think if a new party formed with the exact same policies as SF but none of the baggage or media campaign against them they’d win an overall majority.
Surely after all the countrys been through a slightly left of centre crowd would get a chance anywhere else.
I’m not against voting for the shinners. I just wish they weren’t so populist. If they were a party of principles then they’d be hiking or expanding the property tax not abolishing it.
Tax the rich, abolish the property tax, abolish the water charges, cut high earning civil servants, pure populist drivel. You can’t be socialist when it suits.

Leave scumpot out of it

Bertie Ahern would disagree.

Part-time socialism is the way to go.

Why though? Who says you’ve to follow some ‘how to be a socialist’ guidelines.
Surely populism is the key to all politics. What party isn’t populist?

@TheUlteriorMotive, any stats on the types of people earning 200k plus in Ireland? I’d wager the very large majority would not be in a position to move abroad.

Any stats or studies on super high earners and links to job creation?

@Tabby is cleaning house on this thread

Well what’s the fucking point in voting for Sinn Fein as a change in how things are done if they are just going to be the same as ever other bunch of cunts we ever elected?

I’m not subscribed to read it all but it was a genuine question. I’ve been meaning to try read into it. My earlier point stands though.

Therein lies the problem

I think the general response is that there aren’t enough to raise anything like the tax you’d need to make a substantial difference and that you could create other issues with regard to FDI, disincentives etc. the problem is for tax to raise substantial sums of money it needs to apply to the middle earners. That’s why you’ll get many politicians suggesting higher tax rates for top earners but being very coy as to what that cut off would be.

The irish income tax system is pretty progressive as it stands with marginal taxes > 50% kicking in pretty early. I’d suspect there’s limited room to raise substantial extra revenue there. As has been pointed out wealth taxes, corporate taxes etc are more likely sources.

About 25,000 I think. Top 0.8 %.

Once you increase income tax to penal levels as proposed by SF (marginal rate 60%) then behaviours will change so you won’t make as much tax as you think
