Super Blues 2015 - Official Thread

3-3 After 71 mins

11 mins to find a winner and maintain a chance of staying up.

10 points from 12 is a good return.

Unfortunately they only got 6 points for the previous 63!

It’s gone now.

Still 24 points to play for. They are leaking a lot of goals though.

It’s not good to have to keep scoring 4 goals to win a game !

The great escape is on!!!

Beat Drogheda 4-1 tonight. 3-0 up within 14 minutes.

13 points from the last 15. Now within three points of Sligo (who have a game in hand) and just 4 points off Galway and Drogheda.

It’s on… @ChocolateMice lash up a link to the great escape theme tune there please.

Bray, Galway and Sligo, all away, are the big games. Sligo is the last game of the season.

Remaining matches.

Pats (H)
Bray (A)
Dundalk (H)
Galway (A)
Derry (H)
Shamrock Rovers (H)
Sligo (A)

Pats in a bad run of form now and Forrester looks like he is off to Peterborough. That’s a massive game next Saturday.

Three or four teams have been sucked back into the relegation fight now. Galway and drogheda in terrible form.

Whats the story with Kinerk. Has he come on board with the hurlers. There was a bit about it in the indo on Thursday but it just said Tj was looking for him

C’maaaaaaaaaan!!!

Score pal?

10 man super blues beat Pats 3-1!

1-0 up when Shaun Kelly was disgracefully sent off on the word of a cheating cunt of a linesman after half an hour. Incredible bottle to score a further two goals.

Match report to follow after pints.

Other results didn’t go our way though. Sligo got a point in Dundalk. Cunts. Only two points behind them now though!

Drogheda won in Derry. Galway 1-0 up against Longford with half an hour left.

Just back from Fortress Markets Field.

Great night. The miraculous fight against the drop continues. 16 points from the last 18 but still marooned to the bottom of the table. Sligo earned an unlikely point at Dundalk while Drogheda and Galway both won. Gap narrower to Sligo at least - now just two behind them - while still four off Drogheda and Galway.

As for the game itself the Super Blues started very well. Brimming with confidence. Took the lead after a stunning free kick from Ian Turner.

Pats were always threatening though and they looked to be in the ascendancy after a very controversial red card before the half hour had elapsed. The linesman on the near side called the ref over to bring an alleged off the ball incident on the other side of the pitch to his attention. The incident was 60 yards away on the other side and Shaun Kelly was sent off. Nobody knows why but the cunt must have had Clark Kent eyesight to spot it. The linesman on that side didn’t see anything.

1-0 with 10 men for the last hour. It looked grim. But the super blues refused to yield. Freddy Hall was composed in goal, O’Conor was assigned as a makeshift right back with Faherty ploughing a lone furrow up front. They defended resolutely with the two banks of four a tight, compact unit.

Faherty lived off scraps but when the chance did come to him just before half time he devoured it. Mix up between two Pats defenders left him through on goal and he finished nonchalantly. Six goals in six games for the old warhorse. 2-0 at the break and breathing space.

Worried home fans expected a second half onslaught. The early second half goal duly came to pass - but not at the end expected. Captain Marvel Shane Duggan showed great persistence, the ball was worked down the left and a delicious cross was met by the in rushing Turner to grab his second of the night. 3-0 and the 1,650 in attendance were in dreamland.

From there to full time was like the battle of Gallipoli as Limerick just soaked up constant pressure. The super blues hardly got out of their half. Hall made a few magnificent saves and his handling was impeccable. Pats forced countless corners and had one effort cleared off the line.

Eventually the dam burst with 10 minutes left after a stunning free kick. 3-1 and with plenty of time left it was heart in mouths time. Pats continued to press, peppering the Limerick goal. They hit the post with a headed effort that would have made the last five minutes unbearable. As it was the home side deserved some luck for their sheer bravery and refusal to fold. The end of the four additional minutes was met by a defiant roar as the home supporters continue to believe the great escape is on.

Next stop Bray next weekend.

Those home fans who took advantage of the extremely generous odds offered by the bookies on a home win prior to kick off (18/5 with Boyles, 100/30 with Powers) had even more reason to be pleased with the nights proceedings.

The dream lives on.

EDIT - NO GAME NEXT WEEKEND. Bray away is in a fortnight, Sept 19th.

DK you are truly a great Limerick man, keep up the good work pal.

I’m going to join the bandwagon for the next home game and head over to the Market’s field.

Tremendous reporting there Dodgy.
We will stay up. The spirit and sheer stubbornness of this squad is there for all to see. A squad composed of the likes of Duggan, Treacy and Turner shouldn’t be at the foot of the table. I’m just glad they’ve finally woken up and the Limerick public is getting out there and backing them. We have to stay up now, the players owe it to themselves for the super-human effort during the last two months.

In fairness, it is the signing of the likes of Hall, Kelly, Kanyuka and Lynch that has really transformed the team. Before the team was simply not good enough and had a keeper who was a complete and utter liability. Hall is reliable and that inspires confidence throughout the team. Lynch is a good man to build an attack, and the likes of O’Conor & Faherty woke up when those players joined, after very poor starts to the season.

Playing lovely football now, with some great heart too. Just a pity some of the other teams have woken up too.
