Super Blues 2015 - Official Thread

Just back from Eamonn Deacy Park.

What a night. Huge away following, tremendous atmosphere. The dream lives on.

A statue needs to be built for Pat Sullivan. The man is a hero. Must be 70 odd but he was there giving it the big 'un after every Limerick goal. He jumped up on the perimeter wall after the goal that put us 2-1 up, waving the smallest Super Blues scarf known to man. Similar in size to the mobile phone used by Ben Stiller in Zoolander. Took two stewards to eventually get him down. Wonderful scenes.

Brilliant display bar a twenty minute spell after half time. Should have been about three up at the break, Faherty missed a couple of sitters but then buried the most difficult chance of the lot after a marauding run.

Galway finally came into it after the break and grabbed an equaliser through ex super blue Sam Oji. A draw was no use, had to win. Responded well and Turner smashed one home after working the chance well for himself.

Turner then turned provider after a sublime cross was met by the inrushing Faherty, the Galway native bagging his second of the night. Limerick comfortably saw out the last ten minutes amid a carnival atmosphere.

Now within touching distance of safety, still bottom but playing like a side going for the title. TFK posters who had ā‚¬20 on them tonight at 7/4 were especially buoyant on the trip home.

Lovely ground, pitch in splendid nick.

Two home games in a row now, Derry next Saturday and shamrock Rovers the week after. Sligo away on the last day.

We are going to do this. Iā€™m wrecked and off to bed.

Why are we in relegation trouble?

We only started to play in August.

Superb report as usual from @dodgy_keeper

We are staying up.

After the first 21 games - won 0 drew 6 lost 15. The club has been living well beyond its means over the last few years. The rent from Thomond Park was absolutely crippling, especially with the crowds dwindling. A soulless, corporate shit hole. The word is Pat pumped in more than a 7 figure sum over the last few years to keep the ship afloat. Obviously wasnā€™t sustainable and pulled the plug at the start of this season.

Budget was slashed dramatically. Then in the summer transfer window made some shrewd signings - Freddie Hall, big Paddy Kanyuke, Lee Jay Lynch and the whole thing was transformed. Also stumbled almost by accident across the best formation - Clarke moved to the left wing and Faherty given a run up front. The champagne football has flowed since - won 6, drew 2 and lost 1 (Dundalk at home after Limerick led for 70 minutes) of the last 9.

Not enjoyed an away game as much since the Munster u21 final 2015.

Killer to be still bottom. Bottom team down automatically and second bottom gets a playoff versus a division one team.

Thereā€™ll be a massive crowd next Saturday. The Markets Field will be heaving. Derry are in good form though so itā€™ll be extremely tough. Mind you at the moment weā€™d give Barcelona a game.

Iā€™m a different TFK poster since realising how to use the Ronny Roar icon. :ronnyroar:

Derry are safe, palā€¦a long journey up and back and a full house will be enough to put them off.

Theyā€™re a different team since they sacked Hutton. Played Cork off the pitch at Turners Cross a few weeks back. Finished 0-0 but should have won it.

Theyā€™d another comfortable win last night too.

Big game today between Longford and Sligo. At the moment we are three behind Longford and one behind Sligo. Not sure what the best result for us would be. A draw? A Longford win makes them safe basically so Iā€™d maybe prefer if they didnā€™t win to drag them back into itā€¦

Sligo are nearest to us at the moment but ideally theyā€™d be safe by the time we go there on the last day.

Think Drogheda could be the team we reel inā€¦

Great mix there last night in the away end, young and old. Highlights on Soccer Republic on Monday night are a must watch.

If we survive, it is likely Drogheda who will finish bottom.

Would be between Galway, Limerick, Sligo and maybe Longford for the play off place.

Would you, at this point, be happy with the play off?

Last week peter Collins said it would not be the great escape, it would be the greatest escape.

He could be right.

Absolutely. Itā€™s just all about getting a playoff. Anything else would be a major bonus. Weā€™d beat Finn Harps or UCD over two legs.

10 points adrift at the start of August, miraculous recovery to still just have a chance of staying up now.

All the teams at the bottom are picking up points here and there though. Itā€™ll go right to the wire.

The drive to Sligo on the last day will be some trek.

Longford are pretty much safe on 30 points. A home win for them tonight against Sligo is in our best interest.

In that case both Sligo and Drogheda are 2 points ahead

We want Sligo to win tonight. Would prefer if they were safe going into the final day against them.

Going in to tonight Longford were on 29 points - only three points ahead of us. They are far from definitely safe.

Not sure what result is desirable. Itā€™s still 0-0 after 25 mins anyway.

0-0 ht

Sligo down to ten men since the middle of the first half.

Still 0-0 approaching the hour mark.

Longford 1-0 Sligo, 8 mins left.

1-1!

All over! 10 man Sligo battle back to snatch a point.

Three games left. Two points behind Sligo and drogheda, three off Galway, four behind Longford, five off Bray and six off Derry.

Longford have now won only one of the last 12 in the league and are right back in it.

We will do it.

Fair play @dodgy_keeper you are a great supporter.
