Super Bowl LV - The triumphant trail to Tampa (Part 1)

White privilage is one thing, sometimes it can’t be helped. Turning your back on your teammates however is the work of the devil

Turns out Brees has form

He’s echoing the sentiments of the POTUS. He cant be THAT wrong can he?

Brees has put his teammates in a tough spot here. No wonder he is the benchmark for underachievement

I think it’s safe to conclude that Brees days in the NFL are done

Ooooft. Hard to believe how anyone could wake up being a Saints fan after this

A lot of hysteria — From the bits I heard he was all about facing the issues of racism together but doesnt feel kneeling for the anthem is the answer … what’s wrong with that? —

There’s a way to express that opinion without flat out saying he will never agree with anyone disrespecting the flag. He was asked his opinion and being a leader and he came out with that. Considering all that is going on right now, it was beyond foolish. Even if he said it wouldn’t be for him, but others have the right to do it, or something, but to just go straight out and diss anyone kneeling is going to get the reaction he is.

To add, he says nothing about the issues of racism in his comment nor that kneeling isn’t the answer.

What did he say about his grandfather? — agree it would have been better if he said nothing or skirted around it.

The black lads are like hyenas when they get going, Brees is finished now no team will take him after this. Shannon Sharpe will put the final bullet in him today on Undisputed.

I think that Brees might just have enough goodwill in the bank to get through it. He is a man who has a fairly high character and I would expect that he will try his best to put it right with his teams mates and come out and admit that what he said was in bad taste and acknowledge his teammates plight as opposed to just trying to brazen it out. But I have no doubt that it will affect his standing in the Saints locker room and it would be the ruination of a lot of lesser players or lads of lesser character.

there was no after this for Brees anyway, doubts over whether he was returning or not this year.

I feel for him, I dont believe he is a racist or some sort of cunt, but he needed to gauge the reaction at the time. He was asked a question, and specifically asked about his role as a leader of the team, and he goes on about his grandfathers fighting in the war and how he can never agree with anyone disrespecting the flag.

He completely misses the point and it probably comes back to the underlying thinking of the average American of his stature. White male, father a prominent trial lawyer, mother an attorney. Big republican supporter from Texas, photo ops with Trump. He doesnt see the issues or understand them. He supports black people and does good work in New Orleans which is a fairly deprived area. But when it comes to their plight, he doesnt seem to get why they have issues, which seems to be a common thing.

As big mick says, he has enough goodwill to tough it out. a carefully worded response where he acknowledges what he said wasnt intended to be disrespectful. He has plenty of supporters still, but he also has a huge amount of people really pissed off with him. The timing of the comments is what is fuelling this even more. How he was stupid enough to make comments like that

God and America and our military — so unbelievably cliched and brain washed.

It’s all gonna burn down around the fools.

Marcus Davenport who Saints gave 2 first round draft picks for siding with Brees here and getting vilified for doing so. The mob advising the young man on how he should feel.

His post-retirement gig might be in doubt now too, has he signed a contract already?
