Super Bowl LV - The triumphant trail to Tampa (Part 1)

He got paid last summer

Well he wants to get paid, more!

He wants a new team, not a new contract.

Iā€™d like to see him go to Washington but probably wonā€™t happen. Not sure NO can sort their cap to get him. SF probably logical placeā€¦ But Washington have the D, have one of the best receivers in the league and look ok at RB. Theyā€™re calling out for a QB and they will be serious contenders.

I think the Jets will make a play for him. They have four first round picks between this year and next and a tonne of cap room. They could easily trade the number 2 pick and acquire more picks to build around Watson too.

Could easily see the Lions giving up the 7th pick and whatever first rounder they get for Stafford for the number 2 pick. Jets then give away their second and third first rounders this year and their highest first rounder next year and a couple of day three picks and Darnold to land Watson and still have plenty to put pieces around him.

Would he go there tho? Itā€™s still a basket case franchise.

Itā€™s a big market with some nice young pieces and a young HC and GM.

Not many have the cap and draft capital to go after him.

Talking through his hole, Hill ran 200M around 20.14.

Hill is a freak. Pro athlete/ Olympic level speed.

I think the Dash times were like 4.39 Miller 4.29 Hill, thatā€™s big in the levels of speed context.

Jets arnā€™t as bad as people think and actually have a quality recieving corp but if the niners donā€™t go the hell and back to get him it will be proof that they are not serious about winning a Superbowl. Giving his reasons for wanting out of Texans Iā€™d say heā€™ll swerve Miami now Trump moved in up the road. Not sure how the Saints are joint 3rd Favs considering they are in cap hell

Off the top of my head I canā€™t think of a worse receiving Corp than the Jets, Patriots and the Dolphins maybe,
They added Mims last year but he hasnā€™t shown anything, Herndon is a huge bust, Crowder makes hay in the absence of anything else to hit.

They have a boat load of cap space though and the WR free agent market is very deep as is the draft for WR. It is a group they could overhaul overnight without much effort. Someone like Juju or Will Fuller and a vet like TY Hilton or Marvin Jones would all be available on team friendly deals with the cap reducing if Watson is the QB.

Or they could easily attract a Golloday, Godwin or Allan Robinson with the cap space they have at the top of the market.

Crowder, Mims and Perriman can all ball. Herndon could come good yet with a decent QB. Not saying theyā€™re world beaters but they looked decent as an offense towards the end of the season when they were injury free. Theres enough there for them to focus on other areas should they get Watson

Perriman is a friend of the forum too.

No doubt, the Jets are moving up,
Theyā€™ve a lot of gaps to plug though, Watson would solve the WB situation but in doing so would hamstring them elsewhere, Iā€™ve said all along that I think Darnold deserves a go with something to work with, same as Tua at the Dolphins, youā€™d have to wonder what numbers the top QBs would have put up in those spots the season just gone

Darnold is the problem

The Jets can afford to take a year and give Darnold another go while rebuilding other areas but they have to decide to take his fifth year option before the start of the season and that is where he starts to get expensive. Iā€™d worry that he has a lot of bad habits/lack of development over the last 3 years will hamstring him/them.

The opportunity to get a proven top 5 QB with the bones of a decade of his prime in front of him pretty much never happens in the NFL. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity and they have the draft capital and cap room that they can add pieces around him. Iā€™d be disappointed if they didnā€™t at least try and make it happen. I think the best case scenario for Darnold is that he becomes an above average starter who can lead you to mediocrity and mid to late teen draft pick purgatory

100%. When was the last time a QB of Watson calibre at his age became available? He is a special talent only coming into his prime and will keep whoever gets him as genuine contenders for the next decade or so and throw in at least a couple of Superbowls for good measure.
