He was badly broke up tbf.
I donât know about plenty. Elite QBs are strange in the fact that for the most part they donât really decline over time, it is normally more of a very fast drop off from being viable to a liability - see Peyton and Brees as two prime examples. Injuries and wear and tear takes it toll and most have the money in the bank to realise it is time to walk away.
Iâm sure that we will probably see a few more play into their 40s but I donât think we will see it become the norm or expectation.
Theyâre gonna get hit obviously, but not as much as before and with very few cheap shots that often caused injuries,
Brees did alright for a 42 year old
modern QBs will be minded in a way previous ones werenât. It has to help.
Donât forget Mayweather was 40 when he beat McGregor.
The top guys will be given that opportunity if they choose to take it, Ben wonât be pushed out in Pittsburgh either, itâs his job as long as heâs standing up and wants it.
thereâs not many obviously but the ones i mentioned a while ago are likely to do it.
Of course, nobody wants to be the guy who runs the elite QB/Franchise legend out of town. But even Ben looked utterly washed this year and it is hard to see him reversing his decline.
Golf would regularly have 60 year olds in contention.
Although I suppose itâs not a sport
Not a hope of him playing anywhere near 40, 36 at a push he is not a pocket passer like the rest you have mentioned, his athleticism and his ability to stay elusive are his main strengths and even at that he is consistently the most hit QB in the league a stat which will only worsen with age along with the potential of a serious injury.
While they physically decline their understanding of what pressure and coverage is developing before them only increases with age and that saves them vital seconds. Sure a rookie qb will get blindsided by a safety blitz that the likes of Brady through experience will know is on the way the second he sees them break from set.
Improvements in conditioning help the longevity, plus half of them are monks now, not coked up and hard drinking with the O line
Can you imagine if Brady won this, it would be nuts.
Theyâve been a very impressive outfit, second half of the season. Theyâve got everything needed both sides of the ball. Fournette is fresh as fuck. Jones is good enough for a one two punch. Brady has targets.
All that said. Mahomes.
Yeah I think the style of the new era players will reduce that.
Brady is fortunate in that the rules changed as he played on. If you have avoided a lot of upper body injuries (unlike Manning and Brees) and have the motivation of Brady, you can play on later.
yeah watchyourtoes mentioned similar. Pocket passers arent as common now in QBs, its more the mobile QB coming into play now like Mahomes and Lamar Jackson etc. There are still others there, although Joe Burrows had a bad start with his injury, but the style of Brady helps him with longevity that wont be as common going forward. The improved protection rules absolutely helped him and the likes of rivers and Brees keep going. QB into their 40s will remain the exception rather than the norm.
So what i seem to get from this debate is that Brady is a phenomenon.
you didnt need that confirmed. Always a given.
I was just letting a few boys come to that conclusion for themselves
Brady is like a Boomer here. They got lucky with timing with education getting cheaper, housing costs low and good pensions. Brady came through an era where you were less likely to get hit, and offenses evolved. His strong work ethic and determination helped him get through but so did luck - if that ACL had been a neck or should injury of equivalent issue then Iâm sure he wouldnât be still around.
Itâs all about athletes now as you say and they are more likely to be injured. And even if you somehow manage to avoid serious injury, as your athleticism declines there will be younger QBs coming in all the time.
I reckon Big Ben would be gone if it wasnât an organisation like the Steelers, and even then, he could still be gone.
Interesting from Amendola in the debate between Belicheck/Patriot way and how big a part Brady played.
taking nothing away from TB12 he was blessed with one of the best oline coaches to ever do it.
Phenomenal stuff from Brady even if you want to tar him with spy-gate and deflate-gate, i don think we will see anyone match his SB appearances let alone wins for a long time
