All reports from local beat writers is extremely positive of him and new coaching staff. Players seem to have very much brought in, donât think one player skipped voluntary workouts.
Doubt the team is capable of winning more than 8 games but I expect they will be a bit like the Panthers last year, winning half a dozen or so and playing everyone else hard.
Sorry Big Dan, what planet are you on? I think theyâll win 1 to 3. They won 5 last year, mostly just through Staffordâs strength of will, now theyâve lost him and Galloday. Theyâre WRs must be in the bottom 3 or 4 of the league and theyâve a shit QB and last year their defence was awful.
You need to factor in just how badly coached the team was over the last three years. The defence was historically bad last year, worse than the one which went 0-16. The defence will take a big step forward simply because it is no longer running Matt Patriciaâs scheme which put players in no win situations and the culture and morale was terrible.
It is a full rebuild so they may well only win two or three games but I would expect them to compete a lot better than previously where they would consistently collapse in the second half of games and completely incapable of stopping the run.
Like I said, I think they will be a bit like the Panthers last year. They will play most teams hard and Iâd expect them to be in the majority of their games half way through the 4th quarter. The Lions conceded 30 points or more in ten games last year and only once held a team under 20. I donât think it is possible to be as bad on defence again.
Whether that leads to 2, 5 or 8 wins is all much of a muchness. A positive culture very much appears to be in the process of being established. They arenât going to the play offs but we take a step forward and have a foundation to build off. Aaron Glenn the defensive coordinator is a guy who will be a head coach in the not too distant future and a number of guys who looked in way over their head under Patricia will improve hugely this season. .
Goff isnât going to win them too many games but I think he will be a high level game manager who wonât take too many risks and let the offensive line and run game open up stuff with play action.
