šŸˆ Super Bowl XLVIII- The Path to Meadowlands

If your gonna pay someone the average of the best 5 salaries (or the 120% of wages whichevers higher) they better be worth it. The qb and wr wages are so high youā€™d only use it on a star player. It can also be used to frighten off other teams sniffing around and teams can withdraw the offer if negotiations break down badly. But thatā€™s rare and the nflpa would go apeshit if it was used as a tool. It makes sense for most teams to franchise nobody. Thereā€™s a salary cap, but most small market teams donā€™t go near it with their wage bill.

Itā€™s only potential free agents. Guys on long term deals are safely tied up. The franchise tag is only used on players who are reaching the end of their contracts and who the organisation donā€™t want to lose.

Much obliged, fellahs.

Awful news for Lauren. Clearly something was wrong with her when her second kick was a full 5 yards short of the first effort.

[article]Lauren Silbermanā€™s bid to be NFLā€™s first female player ends with injury

Lauren Silbermanā€™s history-making NFL tryout ended disappointingly quickly.

Silberman, the first woman to take part in a regional scouting combine sponsored by the NFL, suffered a leg injury and had to withdraw after just two kickoffs.

She pulled up after managing just 19 yards with her first kick-off and then 14 yards with her second effort. Silberman then spoke to a trainer and did not continue.

In December 2011, the barriers that prevented women from playing in the NFL were removed.

ā€œIā€™m just really happy I had this amazing experience,ā€™ā€™ Silberman concluded. ''I might be the first woman trying out for the NFL, but I certainly hope Iā€™m not the last.ā€

Silberman, 28, suffered a quadriceps injury while preparing for the trials during the week and said: ā€œI tried staying off it and waited for today. I didnā€™t even take kicks in warm-ups, and, itā€™s pretty hard to know that youā€™ll be in pain and I wanted to work through it and I certainly tried to, but I just couldnā€™t do it today.ā€[/article]

The Chiefs have signed Dwayne Bowe to a 5 year deal and tagged Branden Albert. This throws the draft wide open as the Chiefs were assumed to be taking Texas A&M LT Luke Joeckel with the first pick. Stunning developments in KC tonight.

Theyā€™re not going to take Geno Smith after signing namesake Alex from San Francisco. Joeckel is still a possibility if theyā€™re looking for line strength or they could go for Warmack or Fisher to give them a serious O-Line.

If theyā€™re looking to boost the D they could do worse than Ziggy Ansah who was very impressive in the combine last week. Bjoern Werner looks Jacksonville bound, but for a team in dire need of help on the line, Joeckel might now land here.

Iā€™m starting to believe the Chiefs have lined up a trade for the #1 pick. The Eagles would be my guess, I canā€™t see the Chiefs spending all that money tagging Albert and then giving number 1 money to Joeckel. A QB is out of the question and anyone else would be a huge gamble.

Rocko, what are you hearing regarding Revis from your Jets contacts?

Going?

Weā€™re just concentrating on getting him back to full health Bandage. It will be great to have him in the building again. Heā€™s contracted to be a Jet and heā€™s a great player so heā€™s one weā€™d love to keep.

David Garrard was in talks with the Jets this week.

Just talks or did he ā€œvisit withā€ your organisation?

The 9ers have just released David Akers points to the heavens.

He visited with us and has told the media that the Jets would be a great fit for him. It would effectively mean weā€™re postponing the QB situation for a year but that may well be the only realistic option open given the incumbents and the quality openly available. Not sure it makes much sense though to eat up precious cap space on providing more competition for Sanchez. If weā€™re concentrating on rebuilding other areas this season then we wonā€™t be too bad with Sanchez (and McElroy and Tebow maybe) there for another year and see what comes of it.

Revis is surely done in NY. It makes no sense keeping him. If he stays this year he will be a free agent next year and will walk for nothing. The Jets are going nowhere and paying him all that money whilst their cap situation is so horrific is madness. The Falcons and Niners are strongly rumoured to be sniffing about, the Niners have that extra 2nd round pick for the Alex Smith trade, that pick could be enough to get Revis. Giving up a 1st rounder for a guy coming off ACL surgery is risky.

The Jets could well be picking first next year and it looks to be an excellent QB class, far better than this years dross. Teddy Bridgewater of Louisville would be my idea of #1 overall. The likes of Garrard are mere stopgaps, the Jets should be in a position to draft a proper franchise QB next year.

Agreed so wouldnā€™t it make sense not to be throwing money at Garrard even as a stopgap? We have a stopgap in Sanchez, even if heā€™s hugely overpaid for the year. But weā€™re stuck with that anyway.

Revis wont be happy about being shopped about the placeā€¦

jets are all over the place as an organisation, has Rex guaranteed a superbowl for next year yet?

I canā€™t imagine the market for Garrard is that big, so he should come cheap. The Jets QB situation is so horrendous and Garrard could easily win the starting job. Sanchez looks like a beaten man, Tebow should never have been brought in, he canā€™t throw a ball properly and McElroy is nothing more than a game manager with poor athleticism and arm strength.

If the Jets were serious about winning games they could do worse than roll the dice with Matt Moore, heā€™s probably done in Miami and is better than all the QBs listed above. But with their cap woes itā€™s doubtful they could even afford him.

Off loading Revis, freeing up all that money and getting an extra draft pick really looks like the only option the Jets have.

did Garrard not have the starting job in Miami til he did his knee?

obviously he was only going to be keeping it warm in any caseā€¦

Moore very unpopular in locker room supposedly, very few teams interested in him. Matt Flynn must be scratching his head.
