Cincy take Jackson at #24 the rotten cunts. They don’t even need a corner. They’re still sour.
My beloved Steelers waste no time in taking Artie Burns at 25.
Not sold on this kid. The secondary needs more.
BRONCOS TRADE UP TO THE #26. HONRALE***
Broncos take Paxton Lynch at QB. C Kap/Bradford et al aren’t going to Denver.
Is this unprecedented? Eagles trade up to get second and third overall picks? What did we give the Chargers to get Bosa?
We didn’t draft him pal
Bandage was being a pedantic oul cunt pal.
Well done on your bets, mate.
My take on the first round…
1 LA Rams select Jared Goff (QB Cal) A huge risk to give up that much for a player who is far from a slam dunk, but can see why they done it.
2 Philadelphia select Carson Wentz (QB North Dakota State) It’s become a circus in Philly, not a great landing spot for a QB with so much to prove, a huge roll of the dice that could set the franchise back for years.
3 San Diego select Joey Bosa (DE Ohio State) Bit of a shock as not many had him as a scheme fit in SD, but he’s the best defensive prospect in the draft and a good move from the Chargers.
4 Dallas select Ezekiel Elliot (RB Ohio State) Elliot is a superb prospect, but he goes too high here for my liking especially with so many holes on the D. Looks like a Jerry pick to me.
5 Jacksonville select Jalen Ramsey (CB Florida State) A no-brainer for the Jags as Ramsey is a phenomenal athlete who will be a perfect press CB for Gus Bradley.
6 Baltimore select Ronnie Stanley (T, Notre Dame) I wonder if this would have been Tunsil, but Stanley is good pick here all the same, I’m surprised the Ravens didn’t trade down though.
7 San Franciso select DeForest Buckner (DE Oregon) Was there really going to be anyone else? He joins former Ducks Chip Kelly and Arik Armstead. The Niners get bigger in the trench but Buckner needs to improve his pass rush to justify going this high.
8 Tennessee select Jack Conklin (T Michigan State) Armed with a boatload of picks the Titans probably overpay to move up and get Conklin. A teak tough right tackle who will bookend the Titans line and keep Mariota upright for years to come.
9 Chicago select Leonard Floyd (LB Georgia) The Bears give a 4th rounder to the Bucs to select the edge rusher who will excel in Vic Fangio’s revamped LB corps.
10 NY Giants select Eli Apple (CB Ohio State) Terrific prospect who sealed a top 10 pick by burning up the combine. Wouldn’t have thought CB was the biggest need for the G-Men but hard to argue with Apple’s upside.
11 Tampa Bay select Vernon Hargreaves (CB Florida) At one stage he was the top CB prospect but a poor year saw his stock tumble and caused him to slide outside the top 10. Lots of question marks over him now and this looks on the high side but at least the Bucs traded down to get him.
12 New Orleans select Sheldon Rankins (DT Louisville) A dream for the Saints as Rankins falls into their lap. Their D line has been abysmal for ages but Rankins, and Nick Fairley, will improve them no end.
13 Miami select Laremy Tunsil (T Ole Miss) At one stage the consensus number 1 overall pick so potentially the bargain of the millennium if he behaves himself in Miami, big if though.
14 Oakland select Karl Joseph (S, West Virginia) A hard hitting safety with great range but coming off an ACL tear so looks like a reach at this juncture. But the Raiders had a gaping hole in the position.
15 Cleveland select Corey Coleman (WR Baylor) A superb selection and gives RGIII a much needed weapon, this guy will be fun to watch.
16 Taylor Decker (T Ohio State) Decker is a huge man but limited athleticism projects him to be a career RT. Safe pick though as Detroit needed to getter better up front.
17 Atlanta select Keanu Neal (S Florida) One of my favourite prospects in the class, Dan Quinn will be hoping he has found the next Kam Chancellor.
18 Indianapolis select Ryan Kelly (C Alabama) The best Centre prospect to come along in a while, will be a day one starter and provide some much needed help for Andrew Luck.
19 Buffalo select Shaq Lawson (DE Clemson) Plays with a nasty attitude and is a real Rex Ryan type player, concerns about a shoulder injury probably caused a slight slide but potentially this is a great pick by the Bills.
20 NY Jets select Darron Lee (LB Ohio State) Fifth Buckeye in top 20 and will be a perfect scheme fit for Todd Bowles, solid pick.
21 Houston select Will Fuller (WR Notre Dame) A home run threat on every play with a lot of DeSean Jackson to his game. Will see plenty of chances opposite Nuk Hopkins and gives Brock Osweiler another weapon, will be fascinating to see how Houston play next season.
22 Washington select Josh Doctson (WR TCU) Didn’t see the Skins going WR here, Doctson’s arrival probably means curtains for Pierre Garcon.
23 Minnesota select Laquon Treadwell (WR Ole Miss) Absolutely love this pick, perfect WR for Teddy Bridgewater.
24 Cincinnati select William Jackson III (CB Houston) The run on WRs just before this pick probably sent the Bengals’ war room into full panic mode so they did what they do every year and took a CB in the first round. Not a position of need but I’d say they wanted to fuck the Steelers up as much as anything else.
25 Pittsburgh select Artie Burns (CB Miami) With the talent pool dwindling at the position the Steelers are forced to reach for Burns. Worst pick so far outside of the top 2 for me, but the Steelers are desperate for help in that position.
26 Denver select Paxton Lynch (QB Memphis) The Broncos give up a third rounder to go up and get their man. With Mark Sanchez and Trevor Siemian as the only QBs on the roster they had to do something. They won the Super Bowl last year with an old man who couldn’t throw the football so they will feel they have time to develop the raw Lynch. I like the move.
27 Green Bay select Kenny Clark (DT UCLA) Very young and raw for the position so could be anything. The type of player the Packers love drafting and turning into studs.
28 San Francisco select Joshua Garnett (G Stanford) The Niners trade back into the round by giving the Chiefs a 4th and 6th rounder to take the guy they hope will fill the Mike Iupati sized hole in their line.
29 Arizona select Robert Nkemdiche (DE, Ole Miss) The former number one recruit coming out of high school in the entire country. Character issues, he fell out of a window while stoned and drunk amongst other things, caused a huge slide. The Cards roll the dice however and the sky could be the limit now he’s paired with Chandler Jones, but it’s also highly risky putting these two together off the field, classic boom or bust here.
30 Carolina select Vernon Butler (DT Louisiana Tech) The Panthers love taking huge athletic defensive linemen.
31 Seattle select Germain Ifedi (T Texas A&M) The Seahawks move down 5 places, pick up an extra 3rd round pick and still get the player they wanted. The Seahawks O line was obliterated by the Panthers in the play offs and that was before they lost Russell Okung and JR Sweezy in free agency. This was an obvious pick.
Overall I think it was pretty much a conservative first round with no real shockers. Myles Jack’s slide is the big story and it will be interesting to see how far he slides, someone will get an absolute bargain in the second round.
Complete Jones pick. Crazy passing on Ramsey, given the state of their D. Also the '17 draft class will be absolutely rammed with quality running backs.
Washington are building up some serious depth at their skill positions. I think they will win the NFL East again this season
When does the draft really start?
Tonight pal. GMs earn their crust by hitting on picks from rounds 2 and 3.
Round 1 for some of us…
I read somewhere that it was Tunsil’s stepfather who leaked the photos last night.
Happy with that. Lynch falling was the best case scenario for Elway and it only took a slight jump to gazump Jerry Jones who was trying to trade with Seattle for the same pick in order to grab the QB.
I’d like to see some a replacement for Malik Jackson and a middle linebacker drafted by Denver in the next two rounds.
Just saw this on twitter, Cleveland will balls it up but that is a serious amount of picks.
“They turned the 2nd pick in the draft ~ into three 1’s, two 2’s and three 3’s. Massively more than anyone else got out of the first round”
@Gman - How we fixed? I take it we will be targeting a RB and personnel for the OL with a few low end WRs thrown in? How many Rutgers players will we draft?
This is the equivalent of some geeks in the US debating the best Fitzgibbon/Sigerson Cup prospects.
As if some Sydney based Monaghan roaster or scanger from Ringsend knows who’s the best corner back in US college football.
Lolzers.
