One for the American football heads. Watched Seattle against the 49ers and a decent game, despite plenty of mistakes from both sides.
What struck me was the 49ers’ final touchdown drive. Mike Evans, all 6ft 5 of him, was up against a dwarf called Jobe who couldnt jump, feet of clay. Evans made five catches on that drive, including the touchdown, and the mismatch was glaring. Every time the ball went his way, the other lad looked to have no chance.
You’ve an army of coaches on the sideline, all wearing headsets and studying their little scripts. Surely somebody could spot what was happening and make an adjustment?
Maybe I’m missing something, but what exactly are they all discussing into those microphones? All that tactical complexity, yet they let the same obvious mismatch hurt them repeatedly. Makes you wonder how much of the coaching carry on is actually bullshit.
