Test Match Cricket

Century from Joe Root today at Lords - 344 for 5 at the end of the first day

Great finish in the first test at Lords. Match drawn.

WIndies in a good position to force a rare test victory against New Zealand in Trinidad. Could do it with an innings to spare as well. New Zealand 129/4 in their second innings, still 110 runs adrift.

Dismal from England at Headingley. 8th wicket stand of 149 from Herath and Mathews left England with a target of 350.

Were comfortable enough at 39/0 approaching stumps but 5 wickets lost in last 9 overs to close on 57/5.

England’s batters were the problem in the winter. Now it’s the bowlers. Cook can 't buy a run.

Are the Pomms still batting?

Heroic effort on the last day. Rorke’s Drift, Dunkirk type of rearguard action but sadly all in vain. Jimmy Anderson out on the penultimate ball of the day and with that the 10th wicket, the test and the series.

All out second last ball. Lost by 100 runs. Moeen Ali century not enough. Cook out!

Truly heroic effort from Jimmy Anderson but all in vain. 55 deliveries faced and out for a duck on the penultimate ball of the day. Second only to Geoff Allott of New Zealand (who faced 77 deliveries in recording a duck against South Africa in 1999) for most deliveries faced in recording a duck.

Thats a very poor series defeat for England against a nation who don’t take test cricert seriously and rarely win away from home.

Yeah, its an appalling series defeat. Cook just has to go as captain. He’s not officer class. His batting is suffering as well. I’d give the armband to Bell.

Deciding test underway in Barbados. New Zealand won the toss and elected to bat. Good start from the WInides. Kemar Roach has removed both openers. Its 36/2.

Not sure if it was mentioned elsewhere on TFK but Andrew Strauss has apologised for calling Kevin Pietersen a cunt yesterday. He was commentating on Sky and didn’t realise he was on air when he dropped the c-bomb. Pretty funny.

Hilarious. Didn’t think an ex public schoolboy like Strauss would know a word like that. Brett lee broke Warne’s hand in the game they were covering.

Very disappointing day for England again on Day2 of the First Test at Trent Bridge in the fight for the Pataudi Trophy. India were 259/4 overnight. Got to 344/5 before 4 wickets in 3 overs took the score to 346/9. Bhuvneshar Kumar and Mohammed Shami batting at 9 & 11 put on 111 for the last wicket and India were all out for 457.

Alastair Cook’s dismal form continues. Out for 5. England on 43/1 at stumps.

The old failing again today, unable to bowl out the tailenders. Cook was a bit unlucky. But that’s the way form goes. Needs a break from the game.

A record 198 last wicket stand between Joe Root and James Anderson has given E&W some hope aginst India but it looks to be heading to a draw

Delicately poised at stumps at Day 2 at Lord’s with India having the slight edge. England 219/6 in reply to India’s 295. Truly dreadful from Alastair Cook again. Out for 10. That’s 10 5 16 17 28 & 17 in six knocks this summer - 93 runs at an average of 15.5. The 10 knocks before that in Australia were 7 7 51 27 0 72 1 3 65 13 - 246 runs at an average of 24.6. Decisions have to be made here.

E&W were 174/4 shortly before lunch before being bowled out for 223.

Sharma bounced out 5 of them in those last 6 wickets. Utterly pathetic. Cook out.

Will cook stay on until the series is lost? Vaughan is tipping morgan for the job.
