Test Match Cricket

Stumping scare for Bairstow, but he survives. 151/6, lead of 153 with 41 overs left.

5 minutes spent checking all the TV angles of the potential stumping and then Bairstow creams the next ball for 4.

Test match cricket.

He was lucky enough. His initial reaction seemed to indicate he was out, but it was the correct decision, there wasn’t enough evidence there to give it out.

Yes, he looked distraught. I was thinking that South Africa throwing the ball to Elgar was an admission they didn’t think they could do it. But that would have blown it open again.

155/6.

That’s tea time.

England probably safe and looks like a draw. Funnily enough, despite Stokes & Bairstow’s heroics on Day 1 and Day 2, South Africa can probably take more from this test. Some of their batsmen (most notably Amla) have batted their way back into form and their younger bowlers have done well this morning. The last two tests are up on the high veldt at Wanderers and Centurion, where England have traditionally struggled. Series is very nicely poised.

+1 to all that.

Cape Town is such a beautiful city - possibly the most impressive I’ve visited. The backdrop to Morkel taking that catch on the boundary rope to remove Stokes was stunning.

159/6. Bad light has intervened and that’s probably that.

Cape Town is a smashing city and you won’t get a more panoramic setting for a test match than Newlands. Its a terrific wicket as well and its always an exciting test match.

Its a pity there’s no test match in Port Elizabeth this time around. St George’s Park is a lovely old style cricket ground. Have a bit of a soft spot for it as I took in a day of the South Africa v New Zealand test match when I was passing through Port Elizabeth back in 2000.

Amla resigns as captain. To be replaced by AB.

England are currently 162/4 with Root and Stokes launching a counter attack.

They’ve added 71 from 53 balls since Taylor was dismissed at 91/4.

Top order failed again. 60 in 5 innings for Cook in the series and Hales was all at sea again.

The heat had a cracking win in Melbourne last night

Broad has these incredible spells every once in a while.

He is becoming the go to guy for them. Anderson in decline now. Steve Finn is looking good now as well.
