Australia are the modern the specialists at battling collapses of this nature. 158/0 to 244 all out. That’s up there with anything they have produced in recent years.
South Africa have won two and drawn one of the only three test matches that they have played at the WACA. They walloped Australia by 309 runs in 2012 and chased down a target of 414 to win with six wickets to spare in 2008 - that 414/4 is the second highest successful run chase in test history. Any particular reason you were so bullish about Australia prospects in this test?
Dale Steyn has damaged his troublesome shoulder again and is out of the rest of the series. That’s a hammer blow for South Africa.
A rare win on the road for the Windies, winning the 3rd test in Sharjah and denying Pakistan the opportunity to regain the Number 1 ranking. First time the Windies have beaten a top 8 side overseas since the Boxing Day test in Port Elizabeth in 2007. Kraigg Brathwaite the first opening batsmen in the history of test cricket, 2,200 odd tests, to finish not out in both innings of a test match.
Watched the last session after I got up this morning and the wicket does seem to be deteriorating. Duminy and Elgar put on 250 for the 3rd wicket and by the sound of things had the best of the batting conditions.
The obvious precedent for Australia is the corresponding fixture in 2008 when South Africa chased down 414 for the loss of just 4 wickets to win.
It’s the only reason I’d ever watch a few minutes of live cricket tbh. To bask in the sunshine coming out of the telly.
It’s really one for the radio (tms), or the highlights package.
SA 1/3 to win but we have a good record at the WACA. I think it was here during the ashes that an england player was carried off in a straight jacket when Mitch was bowling to him
Ed Joyce and Eoin Morgan both born, raised and educated in Dublin defected over to England as adults, took the Queen’s shilling and kissed the three lions on their chest. How can a Shinn Fein loyalist like you condone this?
Its difficult to know even where to begin to deal with the factual inaccuracies in that post.
South Africa have played Australia at the WACA in three tests. A draw in 2005. South Africa won by 6 wickets in 2008 after chasing down 414 to win and South Africa won by a thumping 309 runs in 2012.
Australia’s record at the WACA is modest enough on the whole, its certainly no fortress Woolloongabba. West Indies for instance won the first five of the seven tests they have played there and lowly New Zealand even managed a draw there last year.
I think the England player you are referring to is possibly Jonathan Trott on the 2013/14 Ashes tour. Trott didn’t play in the WACA test. He left the tour after the first test at the Gabba
