That last 45 minutes of play this morning was just sensational. Test cricket and sport at its absolute best. Pure theatre.
It is one of the great quirky dynamics to test cricket and as you said a position England have found themselves in many times, in Australia. A team in the field for nearly 2 days in the baking Perth sun facing 135 overs while the opposition are more or less siting in the pavilion sunbathing.
India are rested, all pumped up as Kohli brings up his century. Australia players are jaded physically and mentally, the Fremantle Doctor is blowing to help the India pace attack and sure enough Australia capitulate in the 25 minutes they had to negotiate reduced to 12/3 in just 4.2 overs at stumps.
Aussies had no luck with the pitch. By the end of the Indian innings it had variable bounce, cracks, and was turning sideways on occasion.
India are mentally weak too so plenty of twists and turns left in this iteration of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy
India rout Australia in the first test in Perth. A 295 run win.
Onto Adelaide next for a day/night test.
India have won 5 out of their last 9 tests in Australia. Only lost twice. Not too flaky.
