This is like watching Adam Gilchrist in Adelaide in 2007.
1/132
Head embarrassing the much admired English pace attack
1/136
This one is not on the England bowlers. They put in a monumental effort yesterday to bowl Australia out for 132 and are back out to do it all again 24 hours later. Fast bowlers need to be properly rested to be fully effective. England were bowled out in 32.5 and 33.5 overs, which is a truly shameful batting effort.
Much the same principle as to why starting pitchers in MLB baseball typically only pitch every 4 to 5 days. The arm has to rest.
That’s some century from Travis Head.
Ton up for Head
One of the great Ashes centuries. He really is a joy to watch and it was an inspired move to have him open. Take a bow Travis Head.
Is he on Triple M or something?
Half of em are in London
No, on the public broadcaster.
The fastest century in the fourth innings in test cricket history.
The shots he’s playing now are just contemptuous of the bowling. God I love him.
Head is putting a dagger into England here.
We should all he very grateful to have witnessed that.
Wonderful, that was tremendous fun.
Jesus, Archer should have caught that, but couldn’t be arsed, he looks so pissed off.
And that’s that.
You’d be pretty pissed if yiu had day three tickets.
Smudge gets it done ![]()
Mitchell Starc was pretty effective in both innings
Look at the jokers he was bowling to though. Scandalous.
Advance Australia fair
Idiotic decision
Starc bowled a beast of a ball to Stokes today. Outside of that and the controversial dismissal of Jamie Smith, all the other England top order wickets were simply thrown away.
The trick in a long series, particularly with veteran bowlers is you keep them out in the field for long periods.
When England won the Ashes in Australia last in 2010/11 they specifically targeted just grinding down an ageing Australia in the field. England had three innings wins, in which Australia were kept in the field for 152 overs in Adelaide, 159 overs in Melbourne and 178 overs in Sydney and 78 and 152 overs as well in two innings of first drawn test in Brisbane.
There are core principles to test cricket that will never change. Batsmen must occupy the crease, protect their wicket zealously, take minimal chances and you make the bowlers work in the field. This England team and McCullum are just full of it. They are so deluded they believe they can re-invent how test cricket can be played as glorified pyjama cricket. Predictable consequences when you come up against a hard nosed Australia side.
