Peeking out from under the Archbishop’s frock, the scut.

Reasonably interesting debate. I think the best line was McDowell saying its “morally complex”. I think the real reason it continues to engender such debate is the spectre of the Provos etc using very similar justifications for their campaigns as those used in 1916.

They gave Miriam the auld soft-sop job asking about family histories for fear she’d get eaten alive again in the grownups debate

I enjoyed it. I think Dudley Edwards and Myers were well beaten. Neither seemed able to think on their feet. O cuiv was man of the match. McDowell decent too.

I’d say the punters who tuned in to watch the advertised film hangover 3 are pretty pissed off.

that Oirish times guy was an utter cunt

They’re similar in that the reasons for the Rising are nearly as justifiable as the reasons for the Provisional IRA campaign.

The Provos had a much more just reason for their campaign than the 1916 leaders. Northern nationalists were being burned out of their homes, beaten off the streets by the RUC. The Free State did not intervene, the Brits did not intervene. The nationalist community were left with no other opinion but to defend themselves and take up arms.

O’Cuiv at one point was challenged to explain how the 1916 rising was different to the Provos in the fundamental principles behind it and he started shitting on about the RIC being a reason that legitimised The Rising but their was no alternative with The Provos.

Dare I say it but I thought McDowell came out the best of it. O’Cuiv is a blatant hypocrite, trying to validate his grandfather executing republicans fighting for the same ideals he supposedly stood for.
