Euro Group meeting has ended without an agreement

The Greek’s asked for 54B Euros, 74B is significantly more than 54B.

Nope, you could also argue that 73B is significantly more than 65B. Its not like we’re talking about 73 euro versus 65. The bigger issue is that another 74B in debt would put Greece at 200% debt to GDP, totally unsustainable. There is obviously some reason the Troika are in favor of another bail out, my guess its what would happen in the derivatives market if Greece were to default. No sane person would expect that Syriza will implement the plans they have promised, or that the Greeks have any notion or hope of repaying the existing debt, let alone new debt. They will be back again in a year for another bail out.

you’re right, its 74B.

The EU are really putting the boot into Tsipras.

Refusing to give them any money until the Greek pass a raft of new austerity measures into law. Giving them until Wednesday to get the necessary changes implemented.

Serious doubts now as to whether or not he will have the ability or want to implement them. He has been utterly destroyed by the EU.

Reports the EU want Greece to transfer 50bn worth of state assets to Brussels :open_mouth:

Has to be a grexit now. Its the only way they’ll save some dignity and the conditions being put on them are just as bad as if they left anyway

He mugged himself off. He walked two weeks ago and said that there would be a referendum. Then a landslide of the population backs him and he does a U turn and agrees to even tougher terms! EU obviously believes that he is not serious. Give the EU a sop and shure next year when we are back to our usual tricks there will be another bail out.

They are bending the Greeks over big time

Schaeuble seems to be a bit nuts altogether. Grexit seems to be fast becoming the only possible outcome - if that’s the way it is, they should just all get on with it as quickly as possible.

The real problem here is that currency union between vastly different economies without some real degree of fiscal and political union isn’t possible. If the political will doesn’t exist to create the latter, they’d be as well to just dissolve the currency in as orderly a fashion as possible within the next 12 months.

Jesus.

It’s a wonder the Germans haven’t extracted a military base for themselves.

The Greeks trading their sovereignty for some imaginary paper money. A great day for democracy.

Henceforth to be known as “The Germanic Republic of Greece”

Looks like they are actually going to have to hand over €50bn worth of assets to the EU. Madness.
There will surely large scale disruption on the streets of Greece, or are things that bad there now that will take anything they can get?

I don’t see how Tspiras can go back to them with a straight face saying this is a good deal after telling them to reject a way better deal a few weeks ago.

Unreal. The Germans really called his bluff with the referendum. Knowing that regardless of the outcome there was no way the Greeks could save themselves.

On a brighter note, Sinn Féin and the ultra left don’t have their poster boy anymore.
