I cant work out if you are serious.
UK cant do a deal with EU but Ireland, a full member of the same EU, will do a bilateral trade deal with the UK
Pretty much. Not that the uk can’t do a deal with the EU but I don’t expect they’ll come out the better for it.
Yes and all the European trade will then be routed through Ireland in a massive tariff busting scam. We’ll have to have a 10 line highway from Rosslare to Dublin Port for all the European freight coming in through Ireland to go to Holyhead.
This will be splendid. We will all be working as dockers, but what dockers we will be.
It could save Munster Rugby
Why do you think they are building the new road to Foynes.
UK imports far more from the EU than it exports.
That’s not really the issue though
It is. The EU have more to lose blocking trade than the UK.
Again, not really. The loss is spread out over a huge area, and who’s to say the EU can’t get the UK produced goods elsewhere. Britain is big, but the EU is the biggest economic trading bloc in the world. And the EU will be pissed off. The U.K. Isn’t going to come out ahead of where it is now on whatever deal it comes to.
you havent a clue what you are on about
The UK is importing food and engineering while exporting financial services. Not an ideal start point for the negotiation.
And importing energy and planning to import more.
Sure I do
The EU isn’t a single entity, and it certainly doesn’t or isn’t run as one. If you don’t think the more powerful nations such as Germany have more say than the fringe ones, you are extremely naive. Hence the nations in the bloc who have the biggest clout, also have the most to lose.
I’m not defending the UK in any way, shape or form, but the engineering import slack would be picked up pretty quickly.
As for energy, not a huge amount comes from within the EU.
The EU now enters trade negotiation as one bloc Flatty. The Commission has competency for it. So the EU enters WTO negotiations etc as the largest economic bloc in the world and negotiates with one voice. Same for all future free trade agreements.
It also.“imports” a lot of food due to the bizarre way in which EU agriculture works. Milk, for example, is “sold” to coops based in Denmark, and then “imported” back. I know this as I work with and talk to dairy farmers fairly regularly.
In any case, do you really think that the food exporting nations will want to throw a barrier up to one of their biggest markets?
If they do, they would be stupid.
When it boils down to it, the bottom line will dictate future arrangements. How that will fall I have no idea.
I can’t imagine Ireland wanting a trade war, that’s for sure.
So you really don’t think Germany France and Italy play the tune?
Ok, let’s say they do, where does the balance of power lay when the uk wants to negotiate with the three of them together? That is my only point. The UK would probably do fine outside of the EU, but when it comes to trade with the rest of the EU, there is no way the UK will get terms as favourable as it has now.
