Very few retail banks in Ireland are giving fixed rates now though.
Funnily enough I remember the Kaiser Noonan saying if he was to advise his kids on mortgages…he said fixed all day now that’s over 18 mths ago as well in fairness. Think BOI are offering thm but thye’re to high, the other 3 aren’t afaik. FG are never to be trusted.
It’s very disturbing that banks in Europe are quoting such high rates in a negative rate environment. The Fed rate is at 0.25% here in the US and fixed rates about 4% (but rising), but you can still get a variable rate around 3%. I suspect higher rates in Europe will cause a property collapse as not many can or will sign up for the payments involved.
It’s a national disgrace here anyway,it’s publically known…Noonan cares more about those fuckers share price then the actual Irish people, not even to mention his supposed constituency in Limerick City.
Homeless crisis is getting worse, and is only getting started imo, no houses being built, there isn’t the margin there now for developers outside of the pale, sure what are you going to do in fairness.
FF for all their flaws built out the country in the 1960s. OK, the estates built were shit but they gave a small leg up to those living in inner city shitholes. The problem now is the estates have been razed but there’s no way people on minimum wage can afford a house. It’s a catch 22. It’s going to need another massive infrastructure effort, not sure anyone has the will, either side of the Atlantic. FFS I live in supposedly the richest state in the richest country in the world and driving home is like driving to @Tassotti’s house in west Clare.
It’s much more difficult to enforce security in Ireland than in most continental European countries. Higher risk to banks therefore equals higher mortgage pricing. Our banks have recovered splendidly and are offering excellent pricing all things considered. To the Irish banks.
The banks are nothing without their dedicated, highly trained, astute and go getter staff. Nothing I tell ya.
Fair play to all those involved in the recovery.
