In a TFK exclusive I can reveal that Limerick hurling is set to receive a huge boost with the news that the remaining striking players are expected to return to training tomorrow night. An agreement has apparently been reached after Justin McCarthy finally relented and contacted senior members of the 2009 panel. The secret negotiations have been taking place since late last week.
The players involved were said to be pleasantly surprised with McCarthy’s conciliatory tone and although the Cork native officially set a deadline of Saturday for players to return, talks continued through the weekend and have produced a productive outcome. Hope of a resolution had looked bleak after some players had given interviews to the media which were critical of McCarthy after he comfortably won a vote of confidence at a county board meeting last Tuesday.
