I had knee meniscus issues in Dec. Very sore after runs etc. physio told me to take two weeks off from running and it seemed to resolve itself ok - back running now without issue.
Thanks pal. Over a minute better than last year & over a minute worse than the year before (distance corrected). I was aiming for sub 35 so happy enough. I thought I might have a sneak of 33:XX but early 34 was okay - I had 4:15/km / 6:50/mile in mind beforehand so managed to get inside that.
I enjoyed it overall, got into a decent position in the starting pen so wasnāt really held up in the first km. Had the now usual battle with my own head at various stages & contemplated stepping over to the side during miles 3 & 4 but finished fairly well.
Itās a great event all told. A nice fast course & well supported by the community & terrifically organised by Raheny Shamrock.
Some long run effort in that heat & humidity @RaymondCrotty. Have you settled on a marathon yet? Are you effectively doing a marathon training block at the moment?
Nice running and a good start to the 24/24 season. What other races are you signing up for the year?
Iām opening the season in Trim next week although Iām not sure how to treat it. Made a right bollox when booking it of not copping on it was bang in the middle of a bank holiday weekend and Iām not sure how much itās been welcomed at home.
Also signed up for the Wex half again and then will prob do the Dublin race series over the summer
No mention on the celeb spot thread of who you saw? Or was he āworkingā?
Well done chief
Iāve only signed up for Trim so far but the thoughts of racing 10 miles next Sunday isnāt appealing at the moment. The initial thinking was a 5 mile yesterday would be a good stimulus for another effort next weekend with an easy week in between. There are loads of spring races around Leinster from 5km up to half marathon so Iāll probably pick out another race or two for March/April in the next while. I wouldnāt have minded doing the Wexford half again, more so for a weekend at home than anything, but I think weāve a wedding that weekend. I also hadnāt realised next weekend is a BHW when booking Trim either.
Definitely not working but would Gillick count as a celeb to your trained eye? Had a brief chat with him & he seemed like a nice fella.
Heās on the TV quite a bit. Has he been on DWTS?
Iām sure I can locate his cv online for the motivational speaking, public appearance circuit & Iāll make a call on a celeb spotting thread submission after review of said document.
No marathons in mind as yet and not following any training plan. Ideally Iād love to do a marathon in Ireland this year but unsure when Iāll be back and if that will coincide with there being one. For now just enjoying the novelty of it and hoping I can continue with it. Angkor Wat is a couple of miles from my house so Iām very lucky to run in such a location. Well done to you on the 5 mile in Raheny!
I think Steve Magness makes a lot of sensible points on social media about running. They apply to all levels right down to us middle aged fun runners imnvho.

On a separate note, I was talking to Emmett Dunleavy the other day & he said he usually averages the finishing times of the top half dozen-ten male & female athletes in a race & compares this time to previous race renewals. He does it to gauge performance & to assess how good a run was & if conditions had a material impact. He was saying the times for Raheny last weekend were around 15-20 seconds slower than usual at that top end & attributed it to the strong wind. He said a fair representation for us mere mortals would be to take our finishing times & reduce them by 20-30 seconds. That takes me in the 33 minute bracket. Huzzah.
I stuck my 34:08 5 mile time last weekend into a race calculator & it spat out 71:12 for 10 miles. Average pace increasing from 4:13/km to 4:26/km. Iām not sure Iāll be able to sustain that pace over 10 miles in Trim on Sunday but I guess Iāll try to start at that level & see how I get on. Iāve only raced one 10 mile before & I was 74:20. But itās okay to have doubts guys.
The best way to run a ten miler is run hard.
Do I need to click āshow moreā to see whether the normally emotive north west European way is the good or bad way?
Youāll need to read a critique of Charities before you get to that chapter.
Kev 100% on the ball again, taking up long distance running has taken years off my life
āOnly 1 has ever taken my adviceā¦ā
Thankfully for me, I use a constraints based running approach.
