Does anyone here run who has asthma?

Looks hot in London

I ran the 5km organised by Coolock Running Club with some chums up in Darndale Park yesterday morning. Came home in 21:35, nothing special, but it felt like a bit of progress for me. Haven’t really been happy with many races in the past year - the equivalent event last year when I ran 20:50 might have been the last time I felt I’d ran well. A good bit of traffic on the narrow park path at the start & a huge puddle (pond?) to run through for 10 metres or so but the race opened up after 400m or so & I stuck at it & finished fairly well for me. I’ve the Terenure 5 Mile two weeks today next & nothing else in the pipeline at the moment but will focus on shorter distances for a while.

My algorithm on the socials like insta keeps throwing up London Marathon posts. My goodness it seems practically every person popping up really suffered in the heat. A lot of the elites were a few minutes outside their target but the mass participants were reporting all sorts of things including DNFs & collapsing. I see a few of the celeb types might have underestimated the marathon challenge too, the likes of John Terry posting 5 hours.

Did he run it in full kit?

Sunday looking warm for Limerick but hopefully the half should be finished before it gets too warm. Kicking off at 10:30.

:grinning:

Delighted to slip under the 1:30 today in Limerick. Was an awful mental struggle. Mentally quit twice, but an outer body last km got me over the line.

Some event. 18k running the various events and huge support around the course.

Heres a list of famous ex footballers who ran it. I thought theyd be capable of much better tbh and closer to 4hrs. Probably undertook it at short notice for charity and havent done any training in a long time. Golf course probably as strenuous as its been for most of them I’d say.

That was a savage run, pal. I’m very proud of you.

Thanks mate, i was actually looking for your post where you flagged me for sub 1:30 with a decent training block. It’s the most consistent I’ve ever trained but my legs were dead as fuck the last 2 weeks. It was absolute mental torture.

Did you do your own thing or stay with the pacers? One of my old work pals was actually pacing 1hr 30 so you might have had some interaction. That ability to tough it out when things get very hard is very impressive.

I planned to go with the 1:30 pacers, but got held as they were letting people off. Caught up with them around 3km and going to give the benefit of the doubt that the crowds meant they couldn’t run a consistent pace. It was very erratic from 7 - 10km and they went very fast from 11 -13km. I couldn’t sustain that so left them off and gambled I’d enough in the bank.

You’ll see on strava I was way off pace wise from 16km - 20km but the late burst plus seconds in the bank got me home.

Brilliant. That’s a great milestone to hit.

Anyone recommend a good running watch, I see these whoop things are all the rage but it seems a bit much. It’s a birthday present for herself, shes got into the running a lot lately and only has a chape auld watch.

Something in the €100 range would be nice

Garmin Forerunner is the best bang for buck of the Gamin range. Not sure what model is the most up to date but has all the important features and good battery life. Variety of options for different price points

I got on board the Whoop train about a month ago. If you like your stats etc they it’s for you. Wouldn’t be for everyone mind.

I was thinking some sort of Garmin alright

I’m worried she will be able to pinpoint the time when I get into the bed beside her and start snoring. Could be the end of me :joy:

That’s the main thing it focuses on for me at least, getting enough sleep. Took me a month to catch up, finally got there last night.

Anyone want an entry for Terenure tomorrow but in someone else’s name?
