Yup… I like things to be neat and tidy… It is why it is… Some lads don’t give a shite, bits grown everywhere

If it’s worth doing at all then it’s worth doing it right. It’s either right or it’s not.

What’s kinds have you?

@Faldo or anyone… There is an area of my back which I tried to plant a small shrub/Bush in last week… The soil was like clay…with stones in it… If I dig out the hole here would I be ok to put in a bed of topsoil (from a bag) and compost (from a bag) and plant it and fill with same mix… Would that settlen into a solid enough base in due course?

If the earth I’d taken out was usable id out it back in but it isn’t

Prarie Chilli - which should grow into a bush type thing with lots of small fruits

Bhut Jalonika - which supposed to be seriously hot but only one of those looks like they’ll make a proper plant, so hopefully it does.

The others are from a bag that was labelled mixed chilli’s so they could be anything.

Where did you get them? I planted 4 types of chili seeds, 3 of them have sprouted- the scotch bonnet, habanero and Thai hot. The only one that hasn’t stepped up to the mark is the Bhut Jalokia.

Thegardenshop.ie I think

The Bhut Jalokia seem weak and I wouldn’t be hopeful. I planted 3 of them, 1 seems ok, the other very weak and 3rd one didn’t germinate.

The Bhut was nearly a week later sprouting than the other seeds

That should be A1 chief

I’ve a serious session planned for tomorrow need to remove all the stones from the area where we had an old shed knocked, clear an area beside the pathway to the new shed and put down a covering before putting decorative stones, grass to cut and weed under bushes and shrubs. I’ll be a gardener yet, all alien to me. I was used to cutting the front and back in 20 minutes we had zero plants bushes or trees. At least it’s something to do tomorrow and will keep me off the  until the evening.

If you can get your hands on radon barrier, put that under the stone… You won’t have to worry about a weed for years

Eh what’s that?

Stuff you put under the foundation of a house🙈

Yeah. Go easy on the compost. Maybe 5:1 ratio. Dig out a circumference of 6 inches wider than the footprint of your expected mature foliage and as deep as you can. Give it a good water after planting.

Clueless here thanks for that

Have you any oul rotting manure, alive with worms and a bit of straw? Fork it all together with the compost and say a decade to St Jude.

Horse manure and saw dust a decent alternative.

Fair enough…I have a bit of both. But out of interest, where’s the harm? The plants I put in said compost were ready potted in compost.
