It’ll go to 5.
I’d be very surprised if it does. Novak dismissed nadal with relative ease in the opening set.
For Novak to win he has to be more aggressive. He did it in the first set but then retreated for the second set and Nadal had a drop shot free for all.
Roll on tomorrow. Wonder when they will play it?
I presume 1pm?
He did. But one Novak passed up break points on Nadal’s first two service games in Game 4 of the 2nd set, his confidence seemed to plummet and Nadal was on top all the way to the tie breaker. Tie breaker was an error enough strewn affair. There’ll be a few twists yet. Was Henman/Ivanisevic last semi to be finished over the finals weekend? Think Henman led 2-1 overnight before losing.
Adv Nole.
Got the last 45 minutes and it was great stuff
First Grand Slam with four semi finalists all in their 30’s, I believe. Standard and depth in tennis is about as bad as its ever been. No player born in the 1990’s has won a Grand Slam. Cilic and del Potro who both turn 30 within a week of each other in September are the youngest Grand Slam winners having won one US Open each. The US the traditional powerhouse of tennis hasn’t produced a top drawer player since Sampras and Agassi. Australia traditionally the second strongest tennis nation has had nothing in 15 years either since Rafter/Hewitt. The supposed next generation are rarely even getting to the shake up in the Grand Slams. It already seems to have passed by the likes of Goffin and Dimitrov at 27. Thiem and Kyrgios are moving towards their mid 20’s now and have done very little and even the 21 year old Zverev is developing a reputation for flakiness.
Agassi was a far superior player to that one dimensional donkey Sampras.
Rafa has the greatest tactical mind and mental strength in tennis. He can still do it but Djokovic on form is possibly the GOAT and only Nadal could rival that.
Promises to be fascinating either way.
Who won 14 slams?
Sampras won 14 Grand Slams to Agassi 8 and in the big one at the Championship it was Sampras 7 Agassi 1. Four of Agassi Grand Slams were in Australia at a time when Australia was by some distance still the poor relation.
Sampras beat Agassi in 4 of their 5 Grand Slam final meetings. Overall in Grand Slam head to heads it was Sampras 6 Agassi 3 with Sampras winning both Championship meetings and all four meetings at the US Open.
Agassi’s book is a great read. He concedes in it that Sampras was the better player and attributes his meltdown in the mid 1990’s largely to the crushing nature of the US Open Final defeat of 1995 to Sampras and the psychological hold that Sampras had over him.
One of the best sports biographies. He really hated tennis.
Agassi won all slams. He achieved the unbelievable feat of winning Wimbledon without being a one dimensional server. Sampras was a one trick pony.
Agassi was obviously a purer tennis player (my favourite player) but it’s about winning, the best players in individual sports are the ones that win, natural gifts don’t change that
Boastful Spurs fans declares sport is all about winning shocker
I haven’t a clue what that means
What time are we underway today chaps?
Roof closed. Adv Novak.
Agassi won on all surfaces. Sampras was a one trick pony.
