Only a handful of decent athletes in any population set will participate in athletics. It’s very easy to appear as an international sport when you’re in an individual event and don’t require the same level of investment as a sport like tennis, for example. Running is running. Just look at how athletics narrows out when you go into the field events.

Most of the best athletes in 1st world countries go into team sports.

Jerry should be thankful everyday that the faux nationalism of the Olympics Games allows investment into sports like athletics that nobody gives a fuck about outside of 2 events in a 4 year cycle.

Loads of countries participate in International rugby. Much like athletics though only a small number are any use
