FORZA CASSANO!

Antonio Cassano is a step closer to playing football again after getting the all clear from the Italian Federation of Sporting Doctors.

A panel of 10 medical experts examined his case today after the Milan man had minor heart surgery last autumn.

The attacker hasn’t played since last October when he fell ill on the flight home from Milan’s 3-2 win over Roma.

After undergoing a series of tests, Cassano was forced to undergo an operation in order to resolve the issue.

Today’s news means that the Italian international, who has resumed full training, now just needs clearance from the Istituto di Medicina Sportiva dell’Acqua Acetosa to resume his career.

Cassano is hungry to prove his fitness and form in time for Italy’s Euro 2012 bid.

He’s back!!!

Antonio Cassano has received the green light to resume his playing career, after heart surgery last autumn.

Yesterday a panel of medical experts gave Cassano their go-ahead, with the player then only required to present his case this morning to the Istituto di Medicina Sportiva dell’Acqua Acetosa.

The Milan and Italy striker hasn’t played since October when he fell ill after the Rossoneri’s match at Roma. Tests revealed a rare heart condition that required minor surgery, which the player has been working back to full fitness from ever since.

The club have confirmed that the player has been approved by the Institute this morning and that he can now work towards making a return to first-team action.

BREAKING NEWS

GIUSEPPE ROSSI OUT OF EURO 2012

It’s been confirmed that he was torn the cruciate ligament in the same knee operated on last October. Very unfortunate for the young man and he’ll be a big loss for Italy.

Cesare Prandelli insists Italy will play “in an attacking style inspired by the 1970s Total Football” at Euro 2012.

The Azzurri have had to reshuffle due to injuries and poor form from many of those who got them through qualifying, while their group includes Spain, Croatia and the Republic of Ireland.

“Which Italy will we see at the Euros? A modern team, capable of playing in an attacking style that is sparkling,” he told L’Equipe.

“I take inspiration from the 1970s Total Football practiced by Ajax, a team that were ahead of their time.

“We may not be packed with individual world class players, but we can do well. We are a good squad. I expect the team to be able to build the move, not passively wait for their opponents.

“We will attack, albeit with a great sense of balance between the various departments.”

Spain are the reigning World and European Champions, but Prandelli is not afraid.

“They are a very strong side, but not unbeatable. We must do well to win back the ball quickly and immediately move into our attack.”

However, the tactician did have criticism for the lack of enthusiasm around the Nazionale, especially after clubs rejected his proposed get-togethers during the season.

“When the important games arrive then everyone, from the fans to directors, become big supporters of the Italy squad. During the year, though, it is often forgotten what we do every day for this team.”

A rather uninspiring first selection from Conte there, the likes of Giovinco, Giaccherini, Pasqual, Maggio and Osvaldo have had enough chances. The most satisfying factor is the dropping of Balotelli.
