Who: French rugby player Mathieu Bastareaud
When: Wednesday May 18th, 2016, circa 6:00pm
Where: Murphy’s Pub, High Street, Galway
Any other business: Mathieu was sitting at the bar on his own dressed in a Joy Division “Love Will Tear Us Apart” t-shirt, a pair of jeans and black Doc Marten boots. He had a pint of Guinness in front of him and was reading today’s edition of L’Equipe, specifically the full page spread preview of the Liverpool-Sevilla Europa League final. I quipped the following to him in pidgin French as I passed to go the toilet: “Hey Mathieu, quel equipe a gagne dans le foot cette nuit?” He laughed and said “Ah, Liverpool, bien sur!”
Not a spot. It never happened. Next.
