The Chelsea supporters thread

Do you think he’ll be Roma manager in the near future?

Seems like a good fit to me.

Id take him down the line for sure

He is a winner

How many premier leagues and FA Cups has poch won Jeff

Why don’t you do your own research on that one. Mr Abramovich appears to rate Pochettino very highly. Widely reported across the British press over the last week that he’s his Number 1 target to take over at Chelsea next season.

Can you answer the question Jeff

All the newspaper coverage over recent weeks would suggest the only man whose opinion really matters here, Mr Abramovich, is not happy with that return. This is only the 2nd time in 15 seasons that Chelsea have failed to secure European Cup football courtesy of a 5th place league finish. That alone would appear to be the criteria by which Mr Abramovich is judging Coach Conte and is reportedly about to sack him. An FA Cup win appears unlikely to save Conte from the sack.

Ruud Gullit, Gianluca Vialli, Jose Mourinho, Guus Hiddink, Carlo Ancelotti and Roberto di Matteo have all presided over Chelsea FA Cup wins since 1997. Five of those six were sacked within a few months and Ancelotti limped through to the end of the following season before getting sacked. They’re a very strange club Chelsea.

Just the four premier leagues and one champions league in that period.

Conte has been a huge success

In any reasonable man’s terms Conte has done well. As I’ve said, they’re a very strange club Chelsea. They have been the most successful English club both domestically and in Europe since Abramovich assumed control in 2004, yet he has sacked, I think its 11 managers in those 14 years and Conte is widely reported to be the 12th for the chop. Its not as if Chelsea had much of a history of winning or expectation from their fans from a glorious past. Prior to 1997, in the 92 years of their existence, the trophy count was one league title in 1954/55, one FA Cup in 1970, one League Cup in 1965 and one Cup Winners Cup in 1971.

All three European finals they’ve reached since Abramovich bought the club have been under interim managers.

The closest they got to reaching another one was also under an interim manager.

Was Vialli interim manager when they won the Cup Winners’ Cup in 1998? He played in that final so even that wasn’t won with a conventional manager.

I think he was. Gullit was fired around February/March 1998. Vialli initially got the job until the end of the season.

A serial winner.

You are even more clueless about soccer than hurling?

Interesting that the two names most frequently linked to succeed Conte are Sarri and Pochettino, neither of whom have ever won a trophy as manager. Granted in modern day soccer to win the big trophies you typically have to be at elite super franchises with a huge financial competitive advantage like Juventus, Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Real Madrid, the Manchesters or Chelsea but it would be quite a departure for Abramovich to go for a manager with a different skill set of developing young players and operating in soccer terms on a limited budget.

Looks like the party is over.

A photograph has been posted on Chelsea midfielder Willian’s Instagram Story in which Blues manager Antonio Conte has been obscured.

The Brazilian, who featured only as a late substitute as the Blues beat Manchester United in Saturday’s FA Cup final, posted a series of photographs on the social media site.

On one of them, three trophy emojis had been placed in such a way to obscure Conte from a photograph of the whole team celebrating their success.

Speculation continues to persist that Conte will leave Chelsea this summer despite the FA Cup success, although he insisted again on Saturday that he remains “committed” to the club.

Willian started only 20 Premier League matches for Chelsea in the 2017-18 season, featuring as a substitute on a further 16 occasions.

He did not start any games after reacting angrily to being substituted in the FA Cup semi-final against Southampton on April 22.

The west London side finished the season fifth, outside the Champions League qualification places.

Conte - a serial winner.

Willian seems like a right cunt

Maybe if Conte had managed not to fall out with some of the best and most expensively acquired players in the world which he had at his disposal like Willian, Diego Costa and David Luiz, he wouldn’t be staring down the barrel of the sack after an abject defence of their league title.
