Part of why I left there years ago was the price of shit. Cheaper to buy bars of chocolate and junk than fruit like oranges and apples.

I generally get my coffee in McDonalds or Gregg’s these days. I generally refuse on principle to pay £3.50 which is the going rate in Starbucks and Costa these days.
I suspect the plethora of coffee shops that have sprung up in recent years are going to be the first to feel the pinch as people tighten their belts to deal with price rises elsewhere.

Here’s the European breakdown.
You’d imagine Malta, being a small island with few cars, thet the cost would be higher.
Cut staff maybe… Irish people who buy coffee out and about won’t suddenly stop. It’s drinking alcohol they’ll ease up on. Coffee will remain a social outlet.
The mark up on coffee is unreal… What you want is to spring up on a side of the road van that you work yourself and have no other overheads. Serious money in it and I don’t see it letting up.

Spain is higher than us now anyway so that chart is probably way out. 5 years is a ling time but i have seen it being said last time oil was $120 a barrell the pumps were €1.30 per litre. It is a good question as to where is the money going?

All discretionary spending may take a hit. I’d put three quid coffees right up there.
We’ll be like the Tipp crowd. A flask and tinfoiled sangwhiches brought everywhere.
That’d be my thought. Ah people will still drink coffee, same as they still drink pints, but not at the drop of a hat as much.
The hotels here need to get a kick in the hole too. I absolutely refuse to spend money in an Irish hotel right now. Been abroad twice this year for the price of a hotel room in Dublin for a couple of nights.
