Not when itās time to shoot the people you donāt like. Or donāt even know or have any clue about but donāt like the thought ofā¦ or or orā¦ stop making me think about thingsā¦ it hurtsā¦ just get up against the wall and let me shoot you ffsā¦
The tax black hole in this country will never be sorted because the appettite for real change isnāt there in the population. Sucvessive governments have used divide and conquer among sectors to split them and get them fighting with each other.
Theyāve refused to accept the legitimacy of the only real opposition that remains.
All the while they squander the exchequer on black hole departments like healthcare, over run on every single project ridiculously and there is very little accountability.
Tax wouldnāt be so much of an issue if they were in any way capable of running the country efficiently.
Its not though, at least not in comparison to other placesā¦ Every country in the world has a variation on this. No regulation means rampant corruption (see ff 70s- mid 200s)
Too much regulation means beaurocratic penpushers annoying people regulating and nothing ever getting done, while still managing a little bit of corruption. Getting the perfect goldilocks bowl of porridge is difficult you know.
Iām not looking for perfect kid, just better. Name one department of government that hasnāt gotten worse or woe be tide improved in 20 years? Successive governments have failed really without accountability
I recently had a minor bill for St Johnās hospital, after a visit. No issue in paying for an invaluable service like that.
Invoice arrived in the post, two numbers for the accounts department included. Rang both numbers twice (on different days), no answer from either - just voicemail. Left a message with name and number to fix up with them over the phone.
Left it a few days, no reply back from them.
Rang again and finally got through on phone call number five and got sorted.
Just so inefficient. God only knows how many people try once or twice and then just say āfuck thatā and the tax payer picks up the tab.
Dunno mate. Youād have to be on top of all government to make a call like that. Some sort of internet Tfk Whitaker. I can point you to areas of success certainly. Well impressed with how social welfare managed to set up all the support schemes for covid. An entirely new system and ability to apply for a range of supports within a week or two. Revenue are on top of their game too. You cant miss a property tax bill cos theyāll hit you with a whopper fine on your end oct tax bill if youāre self employed. And youāre pushed onto their computer systems to reduce frontline interactions. Mental efficiencies. Department of children pushed legislation through so adopted people can get information and trace relatives eventuslly in this state. And set up support services and compensation for those affected and create a new national register for data in the new data climate and an archive and inform everyone in the state all while theyāre also trying to administer an ongoing flow of refugees from ukraine and come up with houses or beds for them to stay in even though the country was already fucked for housing. And none of the Ukrainians are sleeping rough? Take a fucking bow dcwhatever itās called now.
I talked to a principal the other day who would tell you they cant get a response fro. The dept on nearly anything since norma foley came in. They are sending out identical stock letters to queries. Similarly, i havent seen that fat fucker Daire O Brien anywhere about housing. Little or nothing concrete about anything.
In truth mate, Iād imagine thereās savage efficiencies and inefficiencies in every dept. Like in many walks of life. I had a very productive morning myself but am mired now typing shite on the internet for the craic. Just dont see the point in saying āits all shit, what have they ever done for usā? Iām sure even @glasagusban has been useful to the country in some manner occasionally. There will always be things that need to be done and governments in most cases will be reactive and be chasing the tail of needs.
