The Cost of Living 📈

Going up tomorrow I’m told

Price of sustainable wood briquettes is up about 70 per cent over last 18 months. I’m starting to think Covid and the war are an excuse for gouging.

Wood Briquettes are up more than that. Wood pellets up €200 per pallet of 80 since April with another increase set for 3 weeks time.

A small hack as the lads says… Under window boards in pre 2011 houses there is generally a small gap which can cause draught on windy nights. Get a tube of caulk and run it across the under window board and seal up that gap.

Would you give another run around the window frames themselves? With clear tek-7 or similar?

Reminds me of the aul yarn you used to tell about telling the wife to put her coat on

Are we going out? She’d ask

No. I am, you’d say.

You’d follow that with a big swallow of your pint and a guffaw.

Yeah, worth a go alright.

I’d be thinking there might some type of temporary subsidy announced in the Budget ?

Not for working folk.

lads will be back in the office 5 days a week when they see the energy costs of WFH

Is too simplistic to say that if the Government need to provide subsidies to energy customers, then a portion of those costs should be recouped from any profits the energy companies make.

100% there should be a windfall tax & the money from it should go to the fuel allowance

Bord Gais

Electricity up 34% and gas 39% from October 2nd

With a massive widening of people who qualify for fuel allowance?

think you live in Malahide now mate? you should be ok

We had an oil crisis in the 70s chaps. We got it over it and we’ll get through this one. Rationing of fuel and mile long queues for a gallon of petrol. Turning off the heat in winter, ice on the inside of the windows in winter. Switching off the fucking immersion and turning off the lights. It’ll toughen us up and we’ll all be the better for it.

A great scam was to proceed along these queues telling punters that petrol sales were restricted to £2/3 CASH up front. You coughed the £3 - got your “receipt” and when your reached the pumps 90 minutes later there wouldn’t be hide nor hair of the boyo and you had to peel £3 again.
£3 got you about 18 pints and 60 fags give or take. Opportunity knocks….
