The Cost of Living 📈

Losing the child benefit is a significant cost I’d imagine.

5k a month coming in is 60k pa after tax. Anyone can’t survive on that without school fees to pay has lost track of reality imho.

Money is a liquid, when the amount of money you get rises, it just flows into new gaps. Gaps you hadn’t even known existed before

I was told most people operate to 110% of their income, regardless or what it increases or decreases to.

I presume he meant before tax, so you’d be looking at closer to 3k a month spending.
By the time you’ve the mortgage paid, childcare, car loan etc there wouldn’t be a lot left in a lot of households

Ah right. I thought he meant after, which would have meant a salary of a hundred odd.

It’s childcare that’s the real killer. Second mortgage territory. Almost all the other discretionary spending is in the hapenny place compared to that

How does Ireland rank in Europe in terms of childcare costs?

Insanely expensive.

The new measures are welcome, but what’s the betting creche fees go up next month?

Why are creches so expensive? The people working there get paid buttons.

Thinking further about that - the amount I currently spend in a year on childcare would

  • Let me buy a new car yearly in cash
  • Let me have weekly nights out in Chapter One
  • Let me have a foreign holiday every two months
  • Let me raise the deposit for a South Dublin house in a couple of years and then would cover the mortgage

etc etc etc

You could just give up your job.
Then you could have as many children as you want.

If you’re lucky they will pick out a nice nursing home for you when you are older.

And the people running them make fuck all either, they are all closing down rather than expanding.

Are creches not tied into some agreement with the govt thqt prices can’t go up? Mrs Hunt mentioned something about it.

Just got a letter from our one today saying she’s putting it up for sale as a going concern.
