If Ronaldo keeps up his scoring form since January, Real Madrid win their three in a row CLs, and he wins another Ballon d’Or, he simply has to be regarded at least careers to date as a notch above Messi. In particular due to winning a major International tournament with an average enough Portugal side. It has to be said that Messi is a few years younger so may have time on his side, and has the opportunity to achieve greatness at this year’s World Cup.

II said careers to date you simpleton. No question Messi was the better player up to 2013, but Ronaldo has won 4 of the past 5 Ballon d’Ors and is on track to win again this season, although obviously the remaining CL fixtures will decide it.

They don’t just give the Ballon d’Or to goalscorers, Cannavaro won one for example. Yes Ronaldo scores a lot more than he creates, so do Pele which doesn’t diminish his greatness.

It’s amazing how hatred for the fact he played with United blinds people to his superior record over Messi for the past 5 seasons, including a major international tournament. Messi had his chances to win a major international tournament and fluffed it.

I love watching Messi but you wouldn’t want to be seriously biased to rate his achievements over Ronaldo since 2013. A period when Messi has played on a far better international team that continues to fail, and a better set of individual players at club level.

Sport is ultimately about winning. Teams that Ronaldo plays on have a habit of winning since 2013 and teams that Messi plays on fall short.

I never said that.

Ronaldo is an either or player. When Ronaldo was an exciting winger who could dribble and cross the ball he wasn’t much of a scorer. When he became a poacher he couldn’t keep up the dribbling and creating. Messi can do it all at the same time
